يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَyasalūnakaThey ask youعَنِʿaniaboutٱلۡأَنفَالِۖl-anfālithe spoils of warقُلِquliSayٱلۡأَنفَالُl-anfāluThe spoils of warلِلَّهِlillahi(are) for Allahوَٱلرَّسُولِۖwal-rasūliand the Messengerفَٱتَّقُواْfa-ittaqūSo fearٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَأَصۡلِحُواْwa-aṣliḥūand set rightذَاتَdhātathatبَيۡنِكُمۡۖbaynikum(which is) between youوَأَطِيعُواْwa-aṭīʿūand obeyٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥٓwarasūlahuand His Messengerإِنinifكُنتُمkuntumyou areمُّؤۡمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

yasalūnaka ʿani l-anfāli quli l-anfālu lillahi wal-rasūli fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṣliḥū dhāta baynikum wa-aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu in kuntum mu'minīna

They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ regarding the spoils of war. Say, “Their distribution is decided by Allah and His Messenger. So be mindful of Allah, settle your affairs, and obey Allah and His Messenger if you are ˹true˺ believers.”

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believersٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those whoإِذَاidhāwhenذُكِرَdhukirais mentionedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahوَجِلَتۡwajilatfeel fearقُلُوبُهُمۡqulūbuhumtheir heartsوَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenتُلِيَتۡtuliyatare recitedعَلَيۡهِمۡʿalayhimto themءَايَٰتُهُۥāyātuhuHis Versesزَادَتۡهُمۡzādathumthey increase themإِيمَٰنٗاīmānan(in) faithوَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand uponرَبِّهِمۡrabbihimtheir Lordيَتَوَكَّلُونَyatawakkalūnathey put their trust

innamā l-mu'minūna alladhīna idhā dhukira l-lahu wajilat qulūbuhum wa-idhā tuliyat ʿalayhim āyātuhu zādathum īmānan waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūna

The ˹true˺ believers are only those whose hearts tremble at the remembrance of Allah, whose faith increases when His revelations are recited to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيُقِيمُونَyuqīmūnaestablishٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayerوَمِمَّاwamimmāand out of whatرَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡrazaqnāhumWe have provided themيُنفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spend

alladhīna yuqīmūna l-ṣalata wamimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūna

˹They are˺ those who establish prayer and donate from what We have provided for them.

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَulāikaThose هُمُhumuthey areٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believersحَقّٗاۚḥaqqan(in) truthلَّهُمۡlahumFor themدَرَجَٰتٌdarajātun(are) ranksعِندَʿindawithرَبِّهِمۡrabbihimtheir Lordوَمَغۡفِرَةٞwamaghfiratunand forgivenessوَرِزۡقٞwariz'qunand a provisionكَرِيمٞkarīmunnoble

ulāika humu l-mu'minūna ḥaqqan lahum darajātun ʿinda rabbihim wamaghfiratun wariz'qun karīmun

It is they who are the true believers. They will have elevated ranks, forgiveness, and an honourable provision from their Lord.

كَمَآkamāAsأَخۡرَجَكَakhrajakabrought you outرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordمِنۢminfromبَيۡتِكَbaytikayour homeبِٱلۡحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَإِنَّwa-innawhile indeedفَرِيقٗاfarīqana partyمِّنَminaamongٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersلَكَٰرِهُونَlakārihūnacertainly disliked

kamā akhrajaka rabbuka min baytika bil-ḥaqi wa-inna farīqan mina l-mu'minīna lakārihūna

Similarly, when your Lord brought you ˹O Prophet˺ out of your home for a just cause, a group of believers was totally against it.

يُجَٰدِلُونَكَyujādilūnakaThey dispute with youفِيfīconcerningٱلۡحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truthبَعۡدَ مَاbaʿdamāafter whatتَبَيَّنَtabayyanawas made clearكَأَنَّمَاka-annamāas ifيُسَاقُونَyusāqūnathey were drivenإِلَىilātoٱلۡمَوۡتِl-mawti[the] deathوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyيَنظُرُونَyanẓurūna(were) looking

yujādilūnaka fī l-ḥaqi baʿdamā tabayyana ka-annamā yusāqūna ilā l-mawti wahum yanẓurūna

They disputed with you about the truth after it had been made clear, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open.

وَإِذۡwa-idhAnd whenيَعِدُكُمُyaʿidukumupromised youٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahإِحۡدَىiḥ'dāoneٱلطَّآئِفَتَيۡنِl-ṭāifatayni(of) the two groups أَنَّهَاannahāthat it (would be)لَكُمۡlakumfor you وَتَوَدُّونَwatawaddūnaand you wishedأَنَّannathatغَيۡرَghayra(one) other thanذَاتِdhātithatٱلشَّوۡكَةِl-shawkati(of) the armedتَكُونُtakūnuwould beلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَيُرِيدُwayurīduBut intendedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahأَنantoيُحِقَّyuḥiqqajustifyٱلۡحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthبِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦbikalimātihiby His wordsوَيَقۡطَعَwayaqṭaʿaand cut offدَابِرَdābira(the) rootsٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers

wa-idh yaʿidukumu l-lahu iḥ'dā l-ṭāifatayni annahā lakum watawaddūna anna ghayra dhāti l-shawkati takūnu lakum wayurīdu l-lahu an yuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa bikalimātihi wayaqṭaʿa dābira l-kāfirīna

˹Remember, O believers,˺ when Allah promised ˹to give˺ you the upper hand over either target, you wished to capture the unarmed party. But it was Allah’s Will to establish the truth by His Words and uproot the disbelievers;

لِيُحِقَّliyuḥiqqaThat He might justifyٱلۡحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthوَيُبۡطِلَwayub'ṭilaand prove falseٱلۡبَٰطِلَl-bāṭilathe falsehoodوَلَوۡwalaweven ifكَرِهَkarihadisliked (it)ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals

liyuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa wayub'ṭila l-bāṭila walaw kariha l-muj'rimūna

to firmly establish the truth and wipe out falsehood—even to the dismay of the wicked.

إِذۡidhWhenتَسۡتَغِيثُونَtastaghīthūnayou were seeking helpرَبَّكُمۡrabbakum(of) your Lordفَٱسۡتَجَابَfa-is'tajābaand He answeredلَكُمۡlakum[to] youأَنِّيannīIndeed, I amمُمِدُّكُمmumiddukumgoing to reinforce youبِأَلۡفٖbi-alfinwith a thousandمِّنَminaofٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِl-malāikatithe Angelsمُرۡدِفِينَmur'difīnaone after another

idh tastaghīthūna rabbakum fa-is'tajāba lakum annī mumiddukum bi-alfin mina l-malāikati mur'difīna

˹Remember˺ when you cried out to your Lord for help, He answered, “I will reinforce you with a thousand angels—followed by many others.”

وَمَاwamāAnd notجَعَلَهُjaʿalahu(it was) madeٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allahإِلَّاillābutبُشۡرَىٰbush'rāgood tidingsوَلِتَطۡمَئِنَّwalitaṭma-innaand so that might be at restبِهِۦbihiwith itقُلُوبُكُمۡۚqulūbukumyour heartsوَمَاwamāAnd (there is) noٱلنَّصۡرُl-naṣru[the] victoryإِلَّاillāexceptمِنۡminfromعِندِʿindi[of]ٱللَّهِۚl-lahiAllahإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahعَزِيزٌʿazīzun(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise

wamā jaʿalahu l-lahu illā bush'rā walitaṭma-inna bihi qulūbukum wamā l-naṣru illā min ʿindi l-lahi inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmun

And Allah made this a sign of victory and reassurance to your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

إِذۡidhWhenيُغَشِّيكُمُyughashīkumuHe covered youٱلنُّعَاسَl-nuʿāsawith [the] slumberأَمَنَةٗamanatana securityمِّنۡهُmin'hufrom Himوَيُنَزِّلُwayunazziluand sent downعَلَيۡكُمʿalaykumupon youمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyمَآءٗmāanwaterلِّيُطَهِّرَكُمliyuṭahhirakumso that He may purify youبِهِۦbihiwith itوَيُذۡهِبَwayudh'hibaand take awayعَنكُمۡʿankumfrom youرِجۡزَrij'zaevil (suggestions)ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِl-shayṭāni(of) the ShaitaanوَلِيَرۡبِطَwaliyarbiṭaAnd to strengthenعَلَىٰʿalā[on]قُلُوبِكُمۡqulūbikumyour heartsوَيُثَبِّتَwayuthabbitaand make firmبِهِbihiwith itٱلۡأَقۡدَامَl-aqdāmayour feet

idh yughashīkumu l-nuʿāsa amanatan min'hu wayunazzilu ʿalaykum mina l-samāi māan liyuṭahhirakum bihi wayudh'hiba ʿankum rij'za l-shayṭāni waliyarbiṭa ʿalā qulūbikum wayuthabbita bihi l-aqdāma

˹Remember˺ when He caused drowsiness to overcome you, giving you serenity. And He sent down rain from the sky to purify you, free you from Satan’s whispers, strengthen your hearts, and make ˹your˺ steps firm.

إِذۡidhWhenيُوحِيyūḥīinspiredرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordإِلَىilātoٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِl-malāikatithe AngelsأَنِّيannīI amمَعَكُمۡmaʿakumwith youفَثَبِّتُواْfathabbitūso strengthenٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواْۚāmanūbelievedسَأُلۡقِيsa-ul'qīI will castفِيfīinقُلُوبِqulūbi(the) heartsٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoكَفَرُواْkafarūdisbelieved ٱلرُّعۡبَl-ruʿ'bathe terrorفَٱضۡرِبُواْfa-iḍ'ribūso strikeفَوۡقَfawqaaboveٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِl-aʿnāqithe necksوَٱضۡرِبُواْwa-iḍ'ribūand strikeمِنۡهُمۡmin'humfrom themكُلَّkullaeveryبَنَانٖbanāninfingertip[s]

idh yūḥī rabbuka ilā l-malāikati annī maʿakum fathabbitū alladhīna āmanū sa-ul'qī fī qulūbi alladhīna kafarū l-ruʿ'ba fa-iḍ'ribū fawqa l-aʿnāqi wa-iḍ'ribū min'hum kulla banānin

˹Remember, O Prophet,˺ when your Lord revealed to the angels, “I am with you. So make the believers stand firm. I will cast horror into the hearts of the disbelievers. So strike their necks and strike their fingertips.”

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمۡbi-annahum(is) because theyشَآقُّواْshāqqūopposedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥۚwarasūlahuand His MessengerوَمَنwamanAnd whoeverيُشَاقِقِyushāqiqiopposesٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messengerفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahشَدِيدُshadīdu(is) severeٱلۡعِقَابِl-ʿiqābiin [the] penalty

dhālika bi-annahum shāqqū l-laha warasūlahu waman yushāqiqi l-laha warasūlahu fa-inna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqābi

This is because they defied Allah and His Messenger. And whoever defies Allah and His Messenger, then ˹know that˺ Allah is surely severe in punishment.

ذَٰلِكُمۡdhālikumThat فَذُوقُوهُfadhūqūhuSo taste itوَأَنَّwa-annaAnd thatلِلۡكَٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelieversعَذَابَʿadhāba(is the) punishmentٱلنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire

dhālikum fadhūqūhu wa-anna lil'kāfirīna ʿadhāba l-nāri

That ˹worldly punishment˺ is yours, so taste it! Then the disbelievers will suffer the torment of the Fire.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُوٓاْāmanūbelieveإِذَاidhāWhenلَقِيتُمُlaqītumuyou meetٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواْkafarūdisbelieveزَحۡفٗاzaḥfanadvancingفَلَاfalāthen (do) notتُوَلُّوهُمُtuwallūhumuturn to themٱلۡأَدۡبَارَl-adbārathe backs

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū zaḥfan falā tuwallūhumu l-adbāra

O believers! When you face the disbelievers in battle, never turn your backs to them.

وَمَنwamanAnd whoeverيُوَلِّهِمۡyuwallihimturns to themيَوۡمَئِذٖyawma-idhinthat dayدُبُرَهُۥٓduburahuhis backإِلَّاillāexceptمُتَحَرِّفٗاmutaḥarrifan(as) a strategyلِّقِتَالٍliqitālinof warأَوۡaworمُتَحَيِّزًاmutaḥayyizan(to) joinإِلَىٰilātoفِئَةٖfi-atina groupفَقَدۡfaqadcertainlyبَآءَbāa(he has) incurredبِغَضَبٖbighaḍabinwrathمِّنَminaofٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمَأۡوَىٰهُwamawāhuand his abodeجَهَنَّمُۖjahannamu(is) Hellوَبِئۡسَwabi'saa wretchedٱلۡمَصِيرُl-maṣīrudestination

waman yuwallihim yawma-idhin duburahu illā mutaḥarrifan liqitālin aw mutaḥayyizan ilā fi-atin faqad bāa bighaḍabin mina l-lahi wamawāhu jahannamu wabi'sa l-maṣīru

And whoever does so on such an occasion—unless it is a manoeuvre or to join their own troops—will earn the displeasure of Allah, and their home will be Hell. What an evil destination!

فَلَمۡfalamAnd notتَقۡتُلُوهُمۡtaqtulūhumyou kill themوَلَٰكِنَّwalākinnabutٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَتَلَهُمۡۚqatalahumkilled themوَمَاwamāAnd notرَمَيۡتَramaytayou threwإِذۡidhwhenرَمَيۡتَramaytayou threwوَلَٰكِنَّwalākinnabutٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahرَمَىٰramāthrewوَلِيُبۡلِيَwaliyub'liyaand that He may testٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believersمِنۡهُmin'hufrom Himبَلَآءًbalāan(with) a trialحَسَنًاۚḥasanangoodإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahسَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٞʿalīmunAll-Knowing

falam taqtulūhum walākinna l-laha qatalahum wamā ramayta idh ramayta walākinna l-laha ramā waliyub'liya l-mu'minīna min'hu balāan ḥasanan inna l-laha samīʿun ʿalīmun

It was not you ˹believers˺ who killed them, but it was Allah Who did so. Nor was it you ˹O Prophet˺ who threw ˹a handful of sand at the disbelievers˺, but it was Allah Who did so, rendering the believers a great favour. Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

ذَٰلِكُمۡdhālikumThat (is the case)وَأَنَّwa-annaand thatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah (is)مُوهِنُmūhinuone who makes weakكَيۡدِkaydi(the) planٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers

dhālikum wa-anna l-laha mūhinu kaydi l-kāfirīna

As such, Allah frustrates the evil plans of the disbelievers.

إِنinIfتَسۡتَفۡتِحُواْtastaftiḥūyou ask for victoryفَقَدۡfaqadthen certainlyجَآءَكُمُjāakumuhas come to youٱلۡفَتۡحُۖl-fatḥuthe victoryوَإِنwa-inAnd ifتَنتَهُواْtantahūyou desistفَهُوَfahuwathen it (is)خَيۡرٞkhayrungoodلَّكُمۡۖlakumfor youوَإِنwa-inbut ifتَعُودُواْtaʿūdūyou returnنَعُدۡnaʿudWe will return (too)وَلَنwalanAnd neverتُغۡنِيَtugh'niyawill availعَنكُمۡʿankumyouفِئَتُكُمۡfi-atukumyour forcesشَيۡـٔٗاshayananythingوَلَوۡwalaweven ifكَثُرَتۡkathurat(they are) numerousوَأَنَّwa-annaAnd thatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَعَmaʿa(is) withٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

in tastaftiḥū faqad jāakumu l-fatḥu wa-in tantahū fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-in taʿūdū naʿud walan tugh'niya ʿankum fi-atukum shayan walaw kathurat wa-anna l-laha maʿa l-mu'minīna

If you ˹Meccans˺ sought judgment, now it has come to you. And if you cease, it will be for your own good. But if you persist, We will persist. And your forces—no matter how numerous they might be—will not benefit you whatsoever. For Allah is certainly with the believers.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُوٓاْāmanūbelieveأَطِيعُواْaṭīʿūObeyٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His MessengerوَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَوَلَّوۡاْtawallawturn awayعَنۡهُʿanhufrom himوَأَنتُمۡwa-antumwhile youتَسۡمَعُونَtasmaʿūnahear

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu walā tawallaw ʿanhu wa-antum tasmaʿūna

O believers! Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn away from him while you hear ˹his call˺.

وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَكُونُواْtakūnūbeكَٱلَّذِينَka-alladhīnalike those whoقَالُواْqālūsayسَمِعۡنَاsamiʿ'nāWe heardوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyلَاlā(do) notيَسۡمَعُونَyasmaʿūnahear

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna qālū samiʿ'nā wahum lā yasmaʿūna

Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” but in fact they are not listening.

۞ إِنَّinnaIndeedشَرَّsharraworstٱلدَّوَآبِّl-dawābi(of) the living creaturesعِندَʿindanearٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahٱلصُّمُّl-ṣumu(are) the deafٱلۡبُكۡمُl-buk'muthe dumb ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَاlā(do) notيَعۡقِلُونَyaʿqilūnause (their) intellect

inna sharra l-dawābi ʿinda l-lahi l-ṣumu l-buk'mu alladhīna lā yaʿqilūna

Indeed, the worst of all beings in the sight of Allah are the ˹wilfully˺ deaf and dumb, who do not understand.

وَلَوۡwalawAnd ifعَلِمَʿalima(had) knownٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahفِيهِمۡfīhimin themخَيۡرٗاkhayranany goodلَّأَسۡمَعَهُمۡۖla-asmaʿahumsurely, He (would) have made them hearوَلَوۡwalawAnd ifأَسۡمَعَهُمۡasmaʿahumHe had made them hearلَتَوَلَّواْlatawallawsurely they would have turned awayوَّهُمwahumwhile theyمُّعۡرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūna(were) averse

walaw ʿalima l-lahu fīhim khayran la-asmaʿahum walaw asmaʿahum latawallaw wahum muʿ'riḍūna

Had Allah found any goodness in them, He would have certainly made them hear. ˹But˺ even if He had made them hear, they would have surely turned away heedlessly.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُواْāmanūbelieveٱسۡتَجِيبُواْis'tajībūRespondلِلَّهِlillahito Allahوَلِلرَّسُولِwalilrrasūliand His Messengerإِذَاidhāwhenدَعَاكُمۡdaʿākumhe calls youلِمَاlimāto whatيُحۡيِيكُمۡۖyuḥ'yīkumgives you lifeوَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْwa-iʿ'lamūAnd knowأَنَّannathatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَحُولُyaḥūlucomesبَيۡنَbayna(in) betweenٱلۡمَرۡءِl-maria manوَقَلۡبِهِۦwaqalbihiand his heartوَأَنَّهُۥٓwa-annahuand thatإِلَيۡهِilayhito Himتُحۡشَرُونَtuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū is'tajībū lillahi walilrrasūli idhā daʿākum limā yuḥ'yīkum wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha yaḥūlu bayna l-mari waqalbihi wa-annahu ilayhi tuḥ'sharūna

O believers! Respond to Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah stands between a person and their heart, and that to Him you will all be gathered.

وَٱتَّقُواْwa-ittaqūAnd fearفِتۡنَةٗfit'natana trialلَّاlānotتُصِيبَنَّtuṣībannawhich will afflictٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoظَلَمُواْẓalamūdo wrongمِنكُمۡminkumamong youخَآصَّةٗۖkhāṣṣatanexclusivelyوَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْwa-iʿ'lamūAnd knowأَنَّannathatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahشَدِيدُshadīdu(is) severeٱلۡعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) the penalty

wa-ittaqū fit'natan lā tuṣībanna alladhīna ẓalamū minkum khāṣṣatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqābi

Beware of a trial that will not only affect the wrongdoers among you. And know that Allah is severe in punishment.

وَٱذۡكُرُوٓاْwa-udh'kurūAnd rememberإِذۡidhwhenأَنتُمۡantumyouقَلِيلٞqalīlun(were) fewمُّسۡتَضۡعَفُونَmus'taḍʿafūna(and) deemed weakفِيfīinٱلۡأَرۡضِl-arḍithe earthتَخَافُونَtakhāfūnafearingأَنanthatيَتَخَطَّفَكُمُyatakhaṭṭafakumumight do away with youٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe menفَـَٔاوَىٰكُمۡfaāwākumthen He sheltered youوَأَيَّدَكُمwa-ayyadakumand strengthened youبِنَصۡرِهِۦbinaṣrihiwith His helpوَرَزَقَكُمwarazaqakumand provided youمِّنَminaofٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِl-ṭayibātithe good thingsلَعَلَّكُمۡlaʿallakumso that you mayتَشۡكُرُونَtashkurūna(be) thankful

wa-udh'kurū idh antum qalīlun mus'taḍʿafūna fī l-arḍi takhāfūna an yatakhaṭṭafakumu l-nāsu faāwākum wa-ayyadakum binaṣrihi warazaqakum mina l-ṭayibāti laʿallakum tashkurūna

Remember when you had been vastly outnumbered and oppressed in the land, constantly in fear of attacks by your enemy, then He sheltered you, strengthened you with His help, and provided you with good things so perhaps you would be thankful.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُواْāmanūbelieveلَاlā(Do) notتَخُونُواْtakhūnūbetrayٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَٱلرَّسُولَwal-rasūlaand the Messengerوَتَخُونُوٓاْwatakhūnūor betrayأَمَٰنَٰتِكُمۡamānātikumyour trustsوَأَنتُمۡwa-antumwhile youتَعۡلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā takhūnū l-laha wal-rasūla watakhūnū amānātikum wa-antum taʿlamūna

O believers! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts knowingly.

وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْwa-iʿ'lamūAnd knowأَنَّمَآannamāthatأَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡamwālukumyour wealthوَأَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡwa-awlādukumand your childrenفِتۡنَةٞfit'natun(are) a trialوَأَنَّwa-annaAnd thatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah عِندَهُۥٓʿindahuwith Himأَجۡرٌajrun(is) a rewardعَظِيمٞʿaẓīmungreat

wa-iʿ'lamū annamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fit'natun wa-anna l-laha ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmun

And know that your wealth and your children are only a test and that with Allah is a great reward.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُوٓاْāmanūbelieveإِنinIfتَتَّقُواْtattaqūyou fearٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَجۡعَلyajʿalHe will grantلَّكُمۡlakumyouفُرۡقَانٗاfur'qānana criterionوَيُكَفِّرۡwayukaffirand will removeعَنكُمۡʿankumfrom youسَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡsayyiātikumyour evil deedsوَيَغۡفِرۡwayaghfirand forgiveلَكُمۡۗlakumyouوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahذُوdhū(is) the Possessorٱلۡفَضۡلِl-faḍli(of) Bountyٱلۡعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tattaqū l-laha yajʿal lakum fur'qānan wayukaffir ʿankum sayyiātikum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu dhū l-faḍli l-ʿaẓīmi

O believers! If you are mindful of Allah, He will grant you a decisive authority, absolve you of your sins, and forgive you. And Allah is the Lord of infinite bounty.

وَإِذۡwa-idhAnd whenيَمۡكُرُyamkuruplottedبِكَbikaagainst youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُواْkafarūdisbelievedلِيُثۡبِتُوكَliyuth'bitūkathat they restrain youأَوۡaworيَقۡتُلُوكَyaqtulūkakill youأَوۡaworيُخۡرِجُوكَۚyukh'rijūkadrive you outوَيَمۡكُرُونَwayamkurūnaAnd they were planningوَيَمۡكُرُwayamkuruand (also) was planningٱللَّهُۖl-lahuAllahوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahخَيۡرُkhayruis (the) Bestٱلۡمَٰكِرِينَl-mākirīna(of) the Planners

wa-idh yamkuru bika alladhīna kafarū liyuth'bitūka aw yaqtulūka aw yukh'rijūka wayamkurūna wayamkuru l-lahu wal-lahu khayru l-mākirīna

And ˹remember, O Prophet,˺ when the disbelievers conspired to capture, kill, or exile you. They planned, but Allah also planned. And Allah is the best of planners.
