Al-Asr

وَٱلۡعَصۡرِwal-ʿaṣriBy the time

wal-ʿaṣri

By the ˹passage of˺ time!

إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insānamankindلَفِيlafī(is) surely, inخُسۡرٍkhus'rinloss

inna l-insāna lafī khus'rin

Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss,

إِلَّاillāExceptٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواْāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواْwaʿamilūand doٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَتَوَاصَوۡاْwatawāṣawand enjoin (each other)بِٱلۡحَقِّbil-ḥaqito the truthوَتَوَاصَوۡاْwatawāṣawand enjoin (each other)بِٱلصَّبۡرِbil-ṣabrito [the] patience

illā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti watawāṣaw bil-ḥaqi watawāṣaw bil-ṣabri

except those who have faith, do good, and urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance.
