بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

الٓمٓ alif-lam-meem Alif Laam Meem
alif-lam-meem
Alif-Lãm-Mĩm.
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ l-kitābu (is) the book لَا lā no رَيۡبَۛ rayba doubt فِيهِۛ fīhi in it هُدٗى hudan a Guidance لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ lil'muttaqīna for the God-conscious
dhālika l-kitābu lā rayba fīhi hudan lil'muttaqīna
This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful ˹of Allah˺,
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ bil-ghaybi in the unseen وَيُقِيمُونَ wayuqīmūna and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ l-ṣalata the prayer وَمِمَّا wamimmā and out of what رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ razaqnāhum We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ yunfiqūna they spend
alladhīna yu'minūna bil-ghaybi wayuqīmūna l-ṣalata wamimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūna
who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them,
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe بِمَآ bimā in what أُنزِلَ unzila (is) sent down إِلَيۡكَ ilayka to you وَمَآ wamā and what أُنزِلَ unzila was sent down مِن min from قَبۡلِكَ qablika before you وَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ wabil-ākhirati and in the Hereafter هُمۡ hum they يُوقِنُونَ yūqinūna firmly believe
wa-alladhīna yu'minūna bimā unzila ilayka wamā unzila min qablika wabil-ākhirati hum yūqinūna
and who believe in what has been revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ and what was revealed before you, and have sure faith in the Hereafter.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those عَلَىٰ ʿalā (are) on هُدٗى hudan Guidance مِّن min from رَّبِّهِمۡۖ rabbihim their Lord وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ wa-ulāika and those هُمُ humu they ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ l-muf'liḥūna (are) the successful ones
ulāika ʿalā hudan min rabbihim wa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūna
It is they who are ˹truly˺ guided by their Lord, and it is they who will be successful.
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُواْ kafarū disbelieve[d] سَوَآءٌ sawāon (it) is same عَلَيۡهِمۡ ʿalayhim to them ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ a-andhartahum whether you warn them أَمۡ am or لَمۡ lam not تُنذِرۡهُمۡ tundhir'hum you warn them لَا lā not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna they believe
inna alladhīna kafarū sawāon ʿalayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhir'hum lā yu'minūna
As for those who persist in disbelief, it is the same whether you warn them or not—they will never believe.
خَتَمَ khatama Has set a seal ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah عَلَىٰ ʿalā on قُلُوبِهِمۡ qulūbihim their hearts وَعَلَىٰ waʿalā and on سَمۡعِهِمۡۖ samʿihim their hearing وَعَلَىٰٓ waʿalā and on أَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ abṣārihim their vision غِشَٰوَةٞۖ ghishāwatun (is) a veil وَلَهُمۡ walahum And for them عَذَابٌ ʿadhābun (is) a punishment عَظِيمٞ ʿaẓīmun great
khatama l-lahu ʿalā qulūbihim waʿalā samʿihim waʿalā abṣārihim ghishāwatun walahum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmun
Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and their sight is covered. They will suffer a tremendous punishment.
وَمِنَ wamina And of ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the people مَن man (are some) who يَقُولُ yaqūlu say ءَامَنَّا āmannā We believed بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ wabil-yawmi and in the Day ٱلۡأٓخِرِ l-ākhiri [the] Last وَمَا wamā but not هُم hum they بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ bimu'minīna (are) believers (at all)
wamina l-nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā bil-lahi wabil-yawmi l-ākhiri wamā hum bimu'minīna
And there are some who say, “We believe in Allah and the Last Day,” yet they are not ˹true˺ believers.
يُخَٰدِعُونَ yukhādiʿūna They seek to deceive ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe[d] وَمَا wamā and not يَخۡدَعُونَ yakhdaʿūna they deceive إِلَّآ illā except أَنفُسَهُمۡ anfusahum themselves وَمَا wamā and not يَشۡعُرُونَ yashʿurūna they realize (it)
yukhādiʿūna l-laha wa-alladhīna āmanū wamā yakhdaʿūna illā anfusahum wamā yashʿurūna
They seek to deceive Allah and the believers, yet they only deceive themselves, but they fail to perceive it.
فِي fī In قُلُوبِهِم qulūbihim their hearts مَّرَضٞ maraḍun (is) a disease فَزَادَهُمُ fazādahumu so has increased them ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah مَرَضٗاۖ maraḍan (in) disease وَلَهُمۡ walahum and for them عَذَابٌ ʿadhābun (is) a punishment أَلِيمُۢ alīmun painful بِمَا bimā because كَانُواْ kānū they used to يَكۡذِبُونَ yakdhibūna [they] lie
fī qulūbihim maraḍun fazādahumu l-lahu maraḍan walahum ʿadhābun alīmun bimā kānū yakdhibūna
There is sickness in their hearts, and Allah ˹only˺ lets their sickness increase. They will suffer a painful punishment for their lies.
وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when قِيلَ qīla it is said لَهُمۡ lahum to them لَا lā (Do) not تُفۡسِدُواْ tuf'sidū spread corruption فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth قَالُوٓاْ qālū they say إِنَّمَا innamā Only نَحۡنُ naḥnu we مُصۡلِحُونَ muṣ'liḥūna (are) reformers
wa-idhā qīla lahum lā tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi qālū innamā naḥnu muṣ'liḥūna
When they are told, “Do not spread corruption in the land,” they reply, “We are only peace-makers!”
أَلَآ alā Beware إِنَّهُمۡ innahum indeed they هُمُ humu themselves ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ l-muf'sidūna (are) the ones who spread corruption وَلَٰكِن walākin [and] but لَّا lā not يَشۡعُرُونَ yashʿurūna they realize (it)
alā innahum humu l-muf'sidūna walākin lā yashʿurūna
Indeed, it is they who are the corruptors, but they fail to perceive it.
وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when قِيلَ qīla it is said لَهُمۡ lahum to them ءَامِنُواْ āminū Believe كَمَآ kamā as ءَامَنَ āmana believed ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu the people قَالُوٓاْ qālū they say أَنُؤۡمِنُ anu'minu Should we believe كَمَآ kamā as ءَامَنَ āmana believed ٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗ l-sufahāu the fools أَلَآ alā Beware إِنَّهُمۡ innahum certainly they هُمُ humu themselves ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ l-sufahāu (are) the fools وَلَٰكِن walākin [and] but لَّا lā not يَعۡلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna they know
wa-idhā qīla lahum āminū kamā āmana l-nāsu qālū anu'minu kamā āmana l-sufahāu alā innahum humu l-sufahāu walākin lā yaʿlamūna
And when they are told, “Believe as others believe,” they reply, “Will we believe as the fools believe?” Indeed, it is they who are fools, but they do not know.
وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when لَقُواْ laqū they meet ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe[d] قَالُوٓاْ qālū they say ءَامَنَّا āmannā We believe[d] وَإِذَا wa-idhā But when خَلَوۡاْ khalaw they are alone إِلَىٰ ilā with شَيَٰطِينِهِمۡ shayāṭīnihim their evil ones قَالُوٓاْ qālū they say إِنَّا innā Indeed, we مَعَكُمۡ maʿakum (are) with you إِنَّمَا innamā only نَحۡنُ naḥnu we مُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ mus'tahziūna (are) mockers
wa-idhā laqū alladhīna āmanū qālū āmannā wa-idhā khalaw ilā shayāṭīnihim qālū innā maʿakum innamā naḥnu mus'tahziūna
When they meet the believers they say, “We believe.” But when alone with their evil associates they say, “We are definitely with you; we were only mocking.”
ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah يَسۡتَهۡزِئُ yastahzi-u mocks بِهِمۡ bihim at them وَيَمُدُّهُمۡ wayamudduhum and prolongs them فِي fī in طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ ṭugh'yānihim their transgression يَعۡمَهُونَ yaʿmahūna they wander blindly
al-lahu yastahzi-u bihim wayamudduhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūna
Allah will throw their mockery back at them, leaving them to continue wandering blindly in their defiance.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) the ones who ٱشۡتَرَوُاْ ish'tarawū bought ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ l-ḍalālata [the] astraying بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ bil-hudā for [the] guidance فَمَا famā So not رَبِحَت rabiḥat profited تِّجَٰرَتُهُمۡ tijāratuhum their commerce وَمَا wamā and not كَانُواْ kānū were they مُهۡتَدِينَ muh'tadīna guided-ones
ulāika alladhīna ish'tarawū l-ḍalālata bil-hudā famā rabiḥat tijāratuhum wamā kānū muh'tadīna
They are the ones who trade guidance for misguidance. But this trade is profitless, and they are not ˹rightly˺ guided.
مَثَلُهُمۡ mathaluhum Their example كَمَثَلِ kamathali (is) like (the) example ٱلَّذِي alladhī (of) the one who ٱسۡتَوۡقَدَ is'tawqada kindled نَارٗا nāran a fire فَلَمَّآ falammā then, when أَضَآءَتۡ aḍāat it illuminated مَا mā what حَوۡلَهُۥ ḥawlahu (was) around him ذَهَبَ dhahaba took away ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah بِنُورِهِمۡ binūrihim their light وَتَرَكَهُمۡ watarakahum and left them فِي fī in ظُلُمَٰتٖ ẓulumātin darkness[es] لَّا lā (so) not يُبۡصِرُونَ yub'ṣirūna (do) they see
mathaluhum kamathali alladhī is'tawqada nāran falammā aḍāat mā ḥawlahu dhahaba l-lahu binūrihim watarakahum fī ẓulumātin lā yub'ṣirūna
Their example is that of someone who kindles a fire, but when it lights up all around them, Allah takes away their light, leaving them in complete darkness—unable to see.
صُمُّۢ ṣummun Deaf بُكۡمٌ buk'mun dumb عُمۡيٞ ʿum'yun blind فَهُمۡ fahum so they لَا lā not يَرۡجِعُونَ yarjiʿūna [they] will not return
ṣummun buk'mun ʿum'yun fahum lā yarjiʿūna
They are ˹wilfully˺ deaf, dumb, and blind, so they will never return ˹to the Right Path˺.
أَوۡ aw Or كَصَيِّبٖ kaṣayyibin like a rainstorm مِّنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky فِيهِ fīhi in it (are) ظُلُمَٰتٞ ẓulumātun darkness[es] وَرَعۡدٞ waraʿdun and thunder وَبَرۡقٞ wabarqun and lightning يَجۡعَلُونَ yajʿalūna They put أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ aṣābiʿahum their fingers فِيٓ fī in ءَاذَانِهِم ādhānihim their ears مِّنَ mina from ٱلصَّوَٰعِقِ l-ṣawāʿiqi the thunderclaps حَذَرَ ḥadhara (in) fear (of) ٱلۡمَوۡتِۚ l-mawti [the] death وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah مُحِيطُۢ muḥīṭun (is) [the One Who] encompasses بِٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ bil-kāfirīna the disbelievers
aw kaṣayyibin mina l-samāi fīhi ẓulumātun waraʿdun wabarqun yajʿalūna aṣābiʿahum fī ādhānihim mina l-ṣawāʿiqi ḥadhara l-mawti wal-lahu muḥīṭun bil-kāfirīna
Or ˹those caught in˺ a rainstorm from the sky with darkness, thunder, and lightning. They press their fingers into their ears at the sound of every thunder-clap for fear of death. And Allah encompasses the disbelievers ˹by His might˺.
يَكَادُ yakādu Almost ٱلۡبَرۡقُ l-barqu the lightning يَخۡطَفُ yakhṭafu snatches away أَبۡصَٰرَهُمۡۖ abṣārahum their sight كُلَّمَآ kullamā Whenever أَضَآءَ aḍāa it flashes لَهُم lahum for them مَّشَوۡاْ mashaw they walk فِيهِ fīhi in it وَإِذَآ wa-idhā and when أَظۡلَمَ aẓlama it darkens عَلَيۡهِمۡ ʿalayhim on them قَامُواْۚ qāmū they stand (still) وَلَوۡ walaw And if شَآءَ shāa had willed ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah لَذَهَبَ ladhahaba He would certainly have taken away بِسَمۡعِهِمۡ bisamʿihim their hearing وَأَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡۚ wa-abṣārihim and their sight إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah عَلَىٰ ʿalā (is) on كُلِّ kulli every شَيۡءٖ shayin thing قَدِيرٞ qadīrun All-Powerful
yakādu l-barqu yakhṭafu abṣārahum kullamā aḍāa lahum mashaw fīhi wa-idhā aẓlama ʿalayhim qāmū walaw shāa l-lahu ladhahaba bisamʿihim wa-abṣārihim inna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun
It is as if the lightning were about to snatch away their sight. Whenever lightning strikes, they walk in its light, but when darkness covers them, they stand still. Had Allah willed, He could have taken away their hearing and sight. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yāayyuhā O ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu mankind ٱعۡبُدُواْ uʿ'budū worship رَبَّكُمُ rabbakumu your Lord ٱلَّذِي alladhī the One Who خَلَقَكُمۡ khalaqakum created you وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those مِن min from قَبۡلِكُمۡ qablikum before you لَعَلَّكُمۡ laʿallakum so that you may تَتَّقُونَ tattaqūna become righteous
yāayyuhā l-nāsu uʿ'budū rabbakumu alladhī khalaqakum wa-alladhīna min qablikum laʿallakum tattaqūna
O humanity! Worship your Lord, Who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful ˹of Him˺.
ٱلَّذِي alladhī The One Who جَعَلَ jaʿala made لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلۡأَرۡضَ l-arḍa the earth فِرَٰشٗا firāshan a resting place وَٱلسَّمَآءَ wal-samāa and the sky بِنَآءٗ bināan a canopy وَأَنزَلَ wa-anzala and sent down مِنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky مَآءٗ māan water فَأَخۡرَجَ fa-akhraja then brought forth بِهِۦ bihi therewith مِنَ mina [of] ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ l-thamarāti the fruits رِزۡقٗا riz'qan (as) provision لَّكُمۡۖ lakum for you فَلَا falā So (do) not تَجۡعَلُواْ tajʿalū set up لِلَّهِ lillahi to Allah أَندَادٗا andādan rivals وَأَنتُمۡ wa-antum while you تَعۡلَمُونَ taʿlamūna [you] know
alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-arḍa firāshan wal-samāa bināan wa-anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhraja bihi mina l-thamarāti riz'qan lakum falā tajʿalū lillahi andādan wa-antum taʿlamūna
˹He is the One˺ Who has made the earth a place of settlement for you and the sky a canopy; and sends down rain from the sky, causing fruits to grow as a provision for you. So do not knowingly set up equals to Allah ˹in worship˺.
وَإِن wa-in And if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you are فِي fī in رَيۡبٖ raybin doubt مِّمَّا mimmā about what نَزَّلۡنَا nazzalnā We have revealed عَلَىٰ ʿalā to عَبۡدِنَا ʿabdinā Our slave فَأۡتُواْ fatū then produce بِسُورَةٖ bisūratin a chapter مِّن min [of] مِّثۡلِهِۦ mith'lihi like it وَٱدۡعُواْ wa-id'ʿū and call شُهَدَآءَكُم shuhadāakum your witnesses مِّن min from دُونِ dūni other than ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you are صَٰدِقِينَ ṣādiqīna truthful
wa-in kuntum fī raybin mimmā nazzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā fatū bisūratin min mith'lihi wa-id'ʿū shuhadāakum min dūni l-lahi in kuntum ṣādiqīna
And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a sûrah like it and call your helpers other than Allah, if what you say is true.
فَإِن fa-in But if لَّمۡ lam not تَفۡعَلُواْ tafʿalū you do وَلَن walan and never تَفۡعَلُواْ tafʿalū will you do فَٱتَّقُواْ fa-ittaqū then fear ٱلنَّارَ l-nāra the Fire ٱلَّتِي allatī whose وَقُودُهَا waqūduhā [its] fuel ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu (is) [the] men وَٱلۡحِجَارَةُۖ wal-ḥijāratu and [the] stones أُعِدَّتۡ uʿiddat prepared لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ lil'kāfirīna for the disbelievers
fa-in lam tafʿalū walan tafʿalū fa-ittaqū l-nāra allatī waqūduhā l-nāsu wal-ḥijāratu uʿiddat lil'kāfirīna
But if you are unable to do so—and you will never be able to do so—then fear the Fire fuelled with people and stones, which is prepared for the disbelievers.
وَبَشِّرِ wabashiri And give good news ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (to) those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe وَعَمِلُواْ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti [the] righteous deeds أَنَّ anna that لَهُمۡ lahum for them جَنَّٰتٖ jannātin (will be) Gardens تَجۡرِي tajrī flow مِن min [from] تَحۡتِهَا taḥtihā under them ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۖ l-anhāru the rivers كُلَّمَا kullamā Every time رُزِقُواْ ruziqū they are provided مِنۡهَا min'hā therefrom مِن min of ثَمَرَةٖ thamaratin fruit رِّزۡقٗا riz'qan (as) provision قَالُواْ qālū they (will) say هَٰذَا hādhā This (is) ٱلَّذِي alladhī the one which رُزِقۡنَا ruziq'nā we were provided مِن min from قَبۡلُۖ qablu before وَأُتُواْ wa-utū And they will be given بِهِۦ bihi therefrom مُتَشَٰبِهٗاۖ mutashābihan (things) in resemblance وَلَهُمۡ walahum And for them فِيهَآ fīhā therein أَزۡوَٰجٞ azwājun spouses مُّطَهَّرَةٞۖ muṭahharatun purified وَهُمۡ wahum and they فِيهَا fīhā therein خَٰلِدُونَ khālidūna (will) abide forever
wabashiri alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti anna lahum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru kullamā ruziqū min'hā min thamaratin riz'qan qālū hādhā alladhī ruziq'nā min qablu wa-utū bihi mutashābihan walahum fīhā azwājun muṭahharatun wahum fīhā khālidūna
Give good news ˹O Prophet˺ to those who believe and do good that they will have Gardens under which rivers flow. Whenever provided with fruit, they will say, “This is what we were given before,” for they will be served fruit that looks similar ˹but tastes different˺. They will have pure spouses, and they will be there forever.
۞ إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah لَا lā (is) not يَسۡتَحۡيِۦٓ yastaḥyī ashamed أَن an to يَضۡرِبَ yaḍriba set forth مَثَلٗا mathalan an example مَّا mā (like) even بَعُوضَةٗ baʿūḍatan (of) a mosquito فَمَا famā and (even) something فَوۡقَهَاۚ fawqahā above it فَأَمَّا fa-ammā Then as for ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believed فَيَعۡلَمُونَ fayaʿlamūna [thus] they will know أَنَّهُ annahu that it ٱلۡحَقُّ l-ḥaqu (is) the truth مِن min from رَّبِّهِمۡۖ rabbihim their Lord وَأَمَّا wa-ammā And as for ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُواْ kafarū disbelieved فَيَقُولُونَ fayaqūlūna [thus] they will say مَاذَآ mādhā what أَرَادَ arāda (did) intend ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah بِهَٰذَا bihādhā by this مَثَلٗاۘ mathalan example يُضِلُّ yuḍillu He lets go astray بِهِۦ bihi by it كَثِيرٗا kathīran many وَيَهۡدِي wayahdī and He guides بِهِۦ bihi by it كَثِيرٗاۚ kathīran many وَمَا wamā And not يُضِلُّ yuḍillu He lets go astray بِهِۦٓ bihi by it إِلَّا illā except ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ l-fāsiqīna the defiantly disobedient
inna l-laha lā yastaḥyī an yaḍriba mathalan mā baʿūḍatan famā fawqahā fa-ammā alladhīna āmanū fayaʿlamūna annahu l-ḥaqu min rabbihim wa-ammā alladhīna kafarū fayaqūlūna mādhā arāda l-lahu bihādhā mathalan yuḍillu bihi kathīran wayahdī bihi kathīran wamā yuḍillu bihi illā l-fāsiqīna
Surely Allah does not shy away from using the parable of a mosquito or what is even smaller. As for the believers, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. And as for the disbelievers, they argue, “What does Allah mean by such a parable?” Through this ˹test˺, He leaves many to stray, and guides many. And He leaves none to stray except the rebellious—
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who يَنقُضُونَ yanquḍūna break عَهۡدَ ʿahda (the) Covenant ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah مِنۢ min from بَعۡدِ baʿdi after مِيثَٰقِهِۦ mīthāqihi its ratification وَيَقۡطَعُونَ wayaqṭaʿūna and [they] cut مَآ mā what أَمَرَ amara has ordered ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah بِهِۦٓ bihi it أَن an to يُوصَلَ yūṣala be joined وَيُفۡسِدُونَ wayuf'sidūna and [they] spread corruption فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ l-arḍi the earth أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those هُمُ humu they ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ l-khāsirūna (are) the losers
alladhīna yanquḍūna ʿahda l-lahi min baʿdi mīthāqihi wayaqṭaʿūna mā amara l-lahu bihi an yūṣala wayuf'sidūna fī l-arḍi ulāika humu l-khāsirūna
those who violate Allah’s covenant after it has been affirmed, break whatever ˹ties˺ Allah has ordered to be maintained, and spread corruption in the land. It is they who are the ˹true˺ losers.
كَيۡفَ kayfa How تَكۡفُرُونَ takfurūna (can) you disbelieve بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَكُنتُمۡ wakuntum While you were أَمۡوَٰتٗا amwātan dead فَأَحۡيَٰكُمۡۖ fa-aḥyākum then He gave you life ثُمَّ thumma then يُمِيتُكُمۡ yumītukum He will cause you to die ثُمَّ thumma then يُحۡيِيكُمۡ yuḥ'yīkum He will give you life ثُمَّ thumma then إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to Him تُرۡجَعُونَ tur'jaʿūna you will be returned
kayfa takfurūna bil-lahi wakuntum amwātan fa-aḥyākum thumma yumītukum thumma yuḥ'yīkum thumma ilayhi tur'jaʿūna
How can you deny Allah? You were lifeless and He gave you life, then He will cause you to die and again bring you to life, and then to Him you will ˹all˺ be returned.
هُوَ huwa He ٱلَّذِي alladhī (is) the One Who خَلَقَ khalaqa created لَكُم lakum for you مَّا mā what فِي fī (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth جَمِيعٗا jamīʿan all ثُمَّ thumma Moreover ٱسۡتَوَىٰٓ is'tawā He turned إِلَى ilā to ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the heaven فَسَوَّىٰهُنَّ fasawwāhunna and fashioned them سَبۡعَ sabʿa seven سَمَٰوَٰتٖۚ samāwātin heavens وَهُوَ wahuwa And He بِكُلِّ bikulli of every شَيۡءٍ shayin thing عَلِيمٞ ʿalīmun (is) All-Knowing
huwa alladhī khalaqa lakum mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan thumma is'tawā ilā l-samāi fasawwāhunna sabʿa samāwātin wahuwa bikulli shayin ʿalīmun
He is the One Who created everything in the earth for you. Then He turned towards the heaven, forming it into seven heavens. And He has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.
وَإِذۡ wa-idh And when قَالَ qāla said رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ lil'malāikati to the angels إِنِّي innī Indeed, I (am) جَاعِلٞ jāʿilun going to place فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth خَلِيفَةٗۖ khalīfatan a vicegerent قَالُوٓاْ qālū they said أَتَجۡعَلُ atajʿalu Will You place فِيهَا fīhā in it مَن man (one) who يُفۡسِدُ yuf'sidu will spread corruption فِيهَا fīhā in it وَيَسۡفِكُ wayasfiku and will shed ٱلدِّمَآءَ l-dimāa [the] blood[s] وَنَحۡنُ wanaḥnu while we نُسَبِّحُ nusabbiḥu [we] glorify (You) بِحَمۡدِكَ biḥamdika with Your praises وَنُقَدِّسُ wanuqaddisu and we sanctify لَكَۖ laka [to] You قَالَ qāla He said إِنِّيٓ innī Indeed, I أَعۡلَمُ aʿlamu [I] know مَا mā what لَا lā not تَعۡلَمُونَ taʿlamūna you know
wa-idh qāla rabbuka lil'malāikati innī jāʿilun fī l-arḍi khalīfatan qālū atajʿalu fīhā man yuf'sidu fīhā wayasfiku l-dimāa wanaḥnu nusabbiḥu biḥamdika wanuqaddisu laka qāla innī aʿlamu mā lā taʿlamūna
˹Remember˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to place a successive ˹human˺ authority on earth.” They asked ˹Allah˺, “Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption there and shed blood while we glorify Your praises and proclaim Your holiness?” Allah responded, “I know what you do not know.”
