ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُal-raḥmānuThe Most Gracious

al-raḥmānu

The Most Compassionate

عَلَّمَʿallamaHe taughtٱلۡقُرۡءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quran

ʿallama l-qur'āna

taught the Quran,

خَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insāna[the] man

khalaqa l-insāna

created humanity,

عَلَّمَهُʿallamahuHe taught himٱلۡبَيَانَl-bayāna[the] speech

ʿallamahu l-bayāna

˹and˺ taught them speech.

ٱلشَّمۡسُal-shamsuThe sunوَٱلۡقَمَرُwal-qamaruand the moonبِحُسۡبَانٖbiḥus'bāninby (precise) calculation

al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bānin

The sun and the moon ˹travel˺ with precision.

وَٱلنَّجۡمُwal-najmuAnd the starsوَٱلشَّجَرُwal-shajaruand the treesيَسۡجُدَانِyasjudāniboth prostrate

wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudāni

The stars and the trees bow down ˹in submission˺.

وَٱلسَّمَآءَwal-samāaAnd the heavenرَفَعَهَاrafaʿahāHe raised itوَوَضَعَwawaḍaʿaand He has set upٱلۡمِيزَانَl-mīzānathe balance

wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzāna

As for the sky, He raised it ˹high˺, and set the balance ˹of justice˺

أَلَّاallāThat notتَطۡغَوۡاْtaṭghawyou may transgressفِيfīinٱلۡمِيزَانِl-mīzānithe balance

allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzāni

so that you do not defraud the scales.

وَأَقِيمُواْwa-aqīmūAnd establishٱلۡوَزۡنَl-waznathe weightبِٱلۡقِسۡطِbil-qis'ṭiin justiceوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُخۡسِرُواْtukh'sirūmake deficientٱلۡمِيزَانَl-mīzānathe balance

wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzāna

Weigh with justice, and do not give short measure.

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَwal-arḍaAnd the earthوَضَعَهَاwaḍaʿahāHe laid itلِلۡأَنَامِlil'anāmifor the creatures

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anāmi

He laid out the earth for all beings.

فِيهَاfīhāThereinفَٰكِهَةٞfākihatun(is) fruitوَٱلنَّخۡلُwal-nakhluand date-palmsذَاتُdhātuhavingٱلۡأَكۡمَامِl-akmāmisheaths

fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmāmi

In it are fruit, palm trees with date stalks,

وَٱلۡحَبُّwal-ḥabuAnd the grainذُوdhūhavingٱلۡعَصۡفِl-ʿaṣfihuskوَٱلرَّيۡحَانُwal-rayḥānuand scented plants

wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥānu

and grain with husks, and aromatic plants.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you ˹humans and jinn˺ both deny?

خَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insānathe manمِنminfromصَلۡصَٰلٖṣalṣālinclayكَٱلۡفَخَّارِkal-fakhārilike the pottery

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhāri

He created humankind from ˹sounding˺ clay like pottery,

وَخَلَقَwakhalaqaAnd He createdٱلۡجَآنَّl-jānathe jinnمِنminfromمَّارِجٖmārijina smokeless flameمِّنminofنَّارٖnārinfire

wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nārin

and created jinn from a ˹smokeless˺ flame of fire.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

رَبُّrabbuLordٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِl-mashriqayni(of) the two Eastsوَرَبُّwarabbuand Lordٱلۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِl-maghribayni(of) the two Wests

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayni

˹He is˺ Lord of the two easts and the two wests.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

مَرَجَmarajaHe releasedٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِl-baḥraynithe two seasيَلۡتَقِيَانِyaltaqiyānimeeting

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyāni

He merges the two bodies of ˹fresh and salt˺ water,

بَيۡنَهُمَاbaynahumāBetween both of themبَرۡزَخٞbarzakhun(is) a barrierلَّاlānotيَبۡغِيَانِyabghiyānithey transgress

baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyāni

yet between them is a barrier they never cross.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

يَخۡرُجُyakhrujuCome forthمِنۡهُمَاmin'humāfrom both of themٱللُّؤۡلُؤُl-lu'lu-uthe pearlوَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُwal-marjānuand the coral

yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjānu

Out of both ˹waters˺ come forth pearls and coral.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

وَلَهُwalahuAnd for Himٱلۡجَوَارِl-jawāri(are) the shipsٱلۡمُنشَـَٔاتُl-munshaātuelevatedفِيfīinٱلۡبَحۡرِl-baḥrithe seaكَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِkal-aʿlāmilike mountains

walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlāmi

To Him belong the ships with raised sails, sailing through the seas like mountains.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

كُلُّkulluEveryoneمَنۡmanwhoعَلَيۡهَاʿalayhā(is) on itفَانٖfānin(will) perish

kullu man ʿalayhā fānin

Every being on earth is bound to perish.

وَيَبۡقَىٰwayabqāBut will remainوَجۡهُwajhu(the) Faceرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordذُوdhū(the) Ownerٱلۡجَلَٰلِl-jalāli(of) Majestyوَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِwal-ik'rāmiand Honor

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rāmi

Only your Lord Himself, full of Majesty and Honour, will remain ˹forever˺.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?

يَسۡـَٔلُهُۥyasaluhuAsks Himمَنmanwhoeverفِيfī(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚwal-arḍiand the earthكُلَّkullaEveryيَوۡمٍyawmindayهُوَhuwaHeفِيfī(is) inشَأۡنٖshanina matter

yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shanin

All those in the heavens and the earth are dependent on Him. Day in and day out He has something to bring about.

فَبِأَيِّfabi-ayyiSo whichءَالَآءِālāi(of the) favorsرَبِّكُمَاrabbikumā(of) your Lordتُكَذِّبَانِtukadhibāniwill you both deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibāni

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny?
