بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Read Word by Word
سَبَّحَ sabbaḥa Glorifies لِلَّهِ lillahi Allah مَا mā whatever فِي fī (is) in ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَمَا wamā and whatever فِي fī (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ l-arḍi the earth وَهُوَ wahuwa And He ٱلۡعَزِيزُ l-ʿazīzu (is) the All-Mighty ٱلۡحَكِيمُ l-ḥakīmu the All-Wise
sabbaḥa lillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah. For He ˹alone˺ is the Almighty, All-Wise.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yāayyuhā O ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (you) who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe لِمَ lima Why تَقُولُونَ taqūlūna (do) you say مَا mā what لَا lā not تَفۡعَلُونَ tafʿalūna you do
yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lima taqūlūna mā lā tafʿalūna
O believers! Why do you say what you do not do?
كَبُرَ kabura Great is مَقۡتًا maqtan hatred عِندَ ʿinda with ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah أَن an that تَقُولُواْ taqūlū you say مَا mā what لَا lā not تَفۡعَلُونَ tafʿalūna you do
kabura maqtan ʿinda l-lahi an taqūlū mā lā tafʿalūna
How despicable it is in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do!
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah يُحِبُّ yuḥibbu loves ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who يُقَٰتِلُونَ yuqātilūna fight فِي fī in سَبِيلِهِۦ sabīlihi His Way صَفّٗا ṣaffan (in) a row كَأَنَّهُم ka-annahum as if they بُنۡيَٰنٞ bun'yānun (were) a structure مَّرۡصُوصٞ marṣūṣun joined firmly
inna l-laha yuḥibbu alladhīna yuqātilūna fī sabīlihi ṣaffan ka-annahum bun'yānun marṣūṣun
Surely Allah loves those who fight in His cause in ˹solid˺ ranks as if they were one concrete structure.
وَإِذۡ wa-idh And when قَالَ qāla said مُوسَىٰ mūsā Musa لِقَوۡمِهِۦ liqawmihi to his people يَٰقَوۡمِ yāqawmi O my people لِمَ lima Why تُؤۡذُونَنِي tu'dhūnanī do you hurt me وَقَد waqad while certainly تَّعۡلَمُونَ taʿlamūna you know أَنِّي annī that I am رَسُولُ rasūlu (the) Messenger ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah إِلَيۡكُمۡۖ ilaykum to you فَلَمَّا falammā Then when زَاغُوٓاْ zāghū they deviated أَزَاغَ azāgha (was caused to) deviate ٱللَّهُ l-lahu (by) Allah قُلُوبَهُمۡۚ qulūbahum their hearts وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah لَا lā (does) not يَهۡدِي yahdī guide ٱلۡقَوۡمَ l-qawma the people ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ l-fāsiqīna the defiantly disobedient
wa-idh qāla mūsā liqawmihi yāqawmi lima tu'dhūnanī waqad taʿlamūna annī rasūlu l-lahi ilaykum falammā zāghū azāgha l-lahu qulūbahum wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-fāsiqīna
˹Remember, O Prophet,˺ when Moses said to his people, “O my people! Why do you hurt me when you already know I am Allah’s messenger to you?” So when they ˹persistently˺ deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. For Allah does not guide the rebellious people.
وَإِذۡ wa-idh And when قَالَ qāla said عِيسَى ʿīsā Isa ٱبۡنُ ub'nu son مَرۡيَمَ maryama (of) Maryam يَٰبَنِيٓ yābanī O Children إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ is'rāīla (of) Israel إِنِّي innī Indeed, I am رَسُولُ rasūlu (the) Messenger ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah إِلَيۡكُم ilaykum to you مُّصَدِّقٗا muṣaddiqan confirming لِّمَا limā that which بَيۡنَ bayna (was) between يَدَيَّ yadayya my hands مِنَ mina of ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ l-tawrāti the Taurat وَمُبَشِّرَۢا wamubashiran and bringing glad tidings بِرَسُولٖ birasūlin (of) a Messenger يَأۡتِي yatī to come مِنۢ min from بَعۡدِي baʿdī after me ٱسۡمُهُۥٓ us'muhu whose name (will be) أَحۡمَدُۖ aḥmadu Ahmad فَلَمَّا falammā But when جَآءَهُم jāahum he came to them بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ bil-bayināti with clear proofs قَالُواْ qālū they said هَٰذَا hādhā This سِحۡرٞ siḥ'run (is) a magic مُّبِينٞ mubīnun clear
wa-idh qāla ʿīsā ub'nu maryama yābanī is'rāīla innī rasūlu l-lahi ilaykum muṣaddiqan limā bayna yadayya mina l-tawrāti wamubashiran birasūlin yatī min baʿdī us'muhu aḥmadu falammā jāahum bil-bayināti qālū hādhā siḥ'run mubīnun
And ˹remember˺ when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O children of Israel! I am truly Allah’s messenger to you, confirming the Torah which came before me, and giving good news of a messenger after me whose name will be Aḥmad.” Yet when the Prophet came to them with clear proofs, they said, “This is pure magic.”
وَمَنۡ waman And who أَظۡلَمُ aẓlamu (is) more wrong مِمَّنِ mimmani than (one) who ٱفۡتَرَىٰ if'tarā invents عَلَى ʿalā upon ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah ٱلۡكَذِبَ l-kadhiba the lie وَهُوَ wahuwa while he يُدۡعَىٰٓ yud'ʿā is invited إِلَى ilā to ٱلۡإِسۡلَٰمِۚ l-is'lāmi Islam وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah لَا lā (does) not يَهۡدِي yahdī guide ٱلۡقَوۡمَ l-qawma the people ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna [the] wrongdoers
waman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba wahuwa yud'ʿā ilā l-is'lāmi wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīna
Who does more wrong than the one who fabricates lies about Allah when invited to submit ˹to Him˺? For Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
يُرِيدُونَ yurīdūna They intend لِيُطۡفِـُٔواْ liyuṭ'fiū to put out نُورَ nūra (the) light ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ bi-afwāhihim with their mouths وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu but Allah مُتِمُّ mutimmu will perfect نُورِهِۦ nūrihi His Light وَلَوۡ walaw although كَرِهَ kariha dislike ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers
yurīdūna liyuṭ'fiū nūra l-lahi bi-afwāhihim wal-lahu mutimmu nūrihi walaw kariha l-kāfirūna
They wish to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, but Allah will ˹certainly˺ perfect His light, even to the dismay of the disbelievers.
هُوَ huwa He ٱلَّذِيٓ alladhī (is) the One Who أَرۡسَلَ arsala sent رَسُولَهُۥ rasūlahu His Messenger بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ bil-hudā with guidance وَدِينِ wadīni and (the) religion ٱلۡحَقِّ l-ḥaqi (of) the truth لِيُظۡهِرَهُۥ liyuẓ'hirahu to make it prevail عَلَى ʿalā over ٱلدِّينِ l-dīni the religion كُلِّهِۦ kullihi all of them وَلَوۡ walaw although كَرِهَ kariha dislike (it) ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ l-mush'rikūna the polytheists
huwa alladhī arsala rasūlahu bil-hudā wadīni l-ḥaqi liyuẓ'hirahu ʿalā l-dīni kullihi walaw kariha l-mush'rikūna
He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with ˹true˺ guidance and the religion of truth, making it prevail over all others, even to the dismay of the polytheists.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yāayyuhā O ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (you) who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe هَلۡ hal Shall أَدُلُّكُمۡ adullukum I guide you عَلَىٰ ʿalā to تِجَٰرَةٖ tijāratin a transaction تُنجِيكُم tunjīkum (that) will save you مِّنۡ min from عَذَابٍ ʿadhābin a punishment أَلِيمٖ alīmin painful
yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū hal adullukum ʿalā tijāratin tunjīkum min ʿadhābin alīmin
O believers! Shall I guide you to an exchange that will save you from a painful punishment?
تُؤۡمِنُونَ tu'minūna Believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦ warasūlihi and His Messenger وَتُجَٰهِدُونَ watujāhidūna and strive فِي fī in سَبِيلِ sabīli (the) way ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah بِأَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡ bi-amwālikum with your wealth وَأَنفُسِكُمۡۚ wa-anfusikum and your lives ذَٰلِكُمۡ dhālikum That خَيۡرٞ khayrun (is) better لَّكُمۡ lakum for you إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you تَعۡلَمُونَ taʿlamūna know
tu'minūna bil-lahi warasūlihi watujāhidūna fī sabīli l-lahi bi-amwālikum wa-anfusikum dhālikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taʿlamūna
˹It is to˺ have faith in Allah and His Messenger, and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if only you knew.
يَغۡفِرۡ yaghfir He will forgive لَكُمۡ lakum for you ذُنُوبَكُمۡ dhunūbakum your sins وَيُدۡخِلۡكُمۡ wayud'khil'kum and admit you جَنَّٰتٖ jannātin (in) Gardens تَجۡرِي tajrī flow مِن min from تَحۡتِهَا taḥtihā underneath it ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ l-anhāru the rivers وَمَسَٰكِنَ wamasākina and dwellings طَيِّبَةٗ ṭayyibatan pleasant فِي fī in جَنَّٰتِ jannāti Gardens عَدۡنٖۚ ʿadnin (of) Eternity ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That ٱلۡفَوۡزُ l-fawzu (is) the success ٱلۡعَظِيمُ l-ʿaẓīmu the great
yaghfir lakum dhunūbakum wayud'khil'kum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru wamasākina ṭayyibatan fī jannāti ʿadnin dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīmu
He will forgive your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and ˹house you in˺ splendid homes in the Gardens of Eternity. That is the ultimate triumph.
وَأُخۡرَىٰ wa-ukh'rā And another تُحِبُّونَهَاۖ tuḥibbūnahā that you love نَصۡرٞ naṣrun a help مِّنَ mina from ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah وَفَتۡحٞ wafatḥun and a victory قَرِيبٞۗ qarībun near وَبَشِّرِ wabashiri and give glad tidings ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ l-mu'minīna (to) the believers
wa-ukh'rā tuḥibbūnahā naṣrun mina l-lahi wafatḥun qarībun wabashiri l-mu'minīna
˹He will also give you˺ another favour that you long for: help from Allah and an imminent victory. ˹So˺ give good news ˹O Prophet˺ to the believers.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yāayyuhā O you ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe كُونُوٓاْ kūnū Be أَنصَارَ anṣāra helpers ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah كَمَا kamā as قَالَ qāla said عِيسَى ʿīsā Isa ٱبۡنُ ub'nu son مَرۡيَمَ maryama (of) Maryam لِلۡحَوَارِيِّـۧنَ lil'ḥawāriyyīna to the disciples مَنۡ man Who أَنصَارِيٓ anṣārī (are) my helpers إِلَى ilā for ٱللَّهِۖ l-lahi Allah قَالَ qāla Said ٱلۡحَوَارِيُّونَ l-ḥawāriyūna the disciples نَحۡنُ naḥnu We أَنصَارُ anṣāru (are) the helpers ٱللَّهِۖ l-lahi (of) Allah فَـَٔامَنَت faāmanat Then believed طَّآئِفَةٞ ṭāifatun a group مِّنۢ min of بَنِيٓ banī Children إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ is'rāīla (of) Israel وَكَفَرَت wakafarat and disbelieved طَّآئِفَةٞۖ ṭāifatun a group فَأَيَّدۡنَا fa-ayyadnā So We supported ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believed عَلَىٰ ʿalā against عَدُوِّهِمۡ ʿaduwwihim their enemy فَأَصۡبَحُواْ fa-aṣbaḥū and they became ظَٰهِرِينَ ẓāhirīna dominant
yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū kūnū anṣāra l-lahi kamā qāla ʿīsā ub'nu maryama lil'ḥawāriyyīna man anṣārī ilā l-lahi qāla l-ḥawāriyūna naḥnu anṣāru l-lahi faāmanat ṭāifatun min banī is'rāīla wakafarat ṭāifatun fa-ayyadnā alladhīna āmanū ʿalā ʿaduwwihim fa-aṣbaḥū ẓāhirīna
O believers! Stand up for Allah, as Jesus, son of Mary, asked the disciples, “Who will stand up with me for Allah?” The disciples replied, “We will stand up for Allah.” Then a group from the Children of Israel believed while another disbelieved. We then supported the believers against their enemies, so they prevailed.
