بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Read Word by Word
الٓرۚ alif-lam-ra Alif Lam Ra كِتَٰبٌ kitābun (This is) a Book أُحۡكِمَتۡ uḥ'kimat are perfected ءَايَٰتُهُۥ āyātuhu its Verses ثُمَّ thumma moreover فُصِّلَتۡ fuṣṣilat explained in detail مِن min from (he One Who) لَّدُنۡ ladun from (he One Who) حَكِيمٍ ḥakīmin (is) All-Wise خَبِيرٍ khabīrin All-Aware
alif-lam-ra kitābun uḥ'kimat āyātuhu thumma fuṣṣilat min ladun ḥakīmin khabīrin
Alif-Lãm-Ra. ˹This is˺ a Book whose verses are well perfected and then fully explained. ˹It is˺ from the One ˹Who is˺ All-Wise, All-Aware.
أَلَّا allā That "Not تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ taʿbudū you worship إِلَّا illā but ٱللَّهَۚ l-laha Allah إِنَّنِي innanī Indeed, I am لَكُم lakum to you مِّنۡهُ min'hu from Him نَذِيرٞ nadhīrun a warner وَبَشِيرٞ wabashīrun and a bearer of glad tidings
allā taʿbudū illā l-laha innanī lakum min'hu nadhīrun wabashīrun
˹Tell them, O Prophet,˺ “Worship none but Allah. Surely I am a warner and deliverer of good news to you from Him.
وَأَنِ wa-ani And that ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ is'taghfirū Seek forgiveness رَبَّكُمۡ rabbakum (of) your Lord ثُمَّ thumma and تُوبُوٓاْ tūbū turn in repentance إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to Him يُمَتِّعۡكُم yumattiʿ'kum He will let you مَّتَٰعًا matāʿan enjoy حَسَنًا ḥasanan a good إِلَىٰٓ ilā for أَجَلٖ ajalin a term مُّسَمّٗى musamman appointed وَيُؤۡتِ wayu'ti And give كُلَّ kulla (to) every ذِي dhī owner فَضۡلٖ faḍlin (of) grace فَضۡلَهُۥۖ faḍlahu His Grace وَإِن wa-in But if تَوَلَّوۡاْ tawallaw you turn away فَإِنِّيٓ fa-innī then indeed, I أَخَافُ akhāfu fear عَلَيۡكُمۡ ʿalaykum for you عَذَابَ ʿadhāba (the) punishment يَوۡمٖ yawmin (of) a Great Day كَبِيرٍ kabīrin (of) a Great Day
wa-ani is'taghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi yumattiʿ'kum matāʿan ḥasanan ilā ajalin musamman wayu'ti kulla dhī faḍlin faḍlahu wa-in tawallaw fa-innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin kabīrin
And seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. He will grant you a good provision for an appointed term and graciously reward the doers of good. But if you turn away, then I truly fear for you the torment of a formidable Day.
إِلَى ilā To ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah مَرۡجِعُكُمۡۖ marjiʿukum (is) your return وَهُوَ wahuwa and He عَلَىٰ ʿalā (is) on كُلِّ kulli every شَيۡءٖ shayin thing قَدِيرٌ qadīrun All-Powerful
ilā l-lahi marjiʿukum wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun
To Allah is your return. And He is Most Capable of everything.”
أَلَآ alā No doubt إِنَّهُمۡ innahum They يَثۡنُونَ yathnūna fold up صُدُورَهُمۡ ṣudūrahum their breasts لِيَسۡتَخۡفُواْ liyastakhfū that they may hide مِنۡهُۚ min'hu from Him أَلَا alā Surely حِينَ ḥīna when يَسۡتَغۡشُونَ yastaghshūna they cover (themselves) ثِيَابَهُمۡ thiyābahum (with) their garments يَعۡلَمُ yaʿlamu He knows مَا mā what يُسِرُّونَ yusirrūna they conceal وَمَا wamā and what يُعۡلِنُونَۚ yuʿ'linūna they reveal إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, He عَلِيمُۢ ʿalīmun (is) All-Knower بِذَاتِ bidhāti of what ٱلصُّدُورِ l-ṣudūri (is in) the breasts
alā innahum yathnūna ṣudūrahum liyastakhfū min'hu alā ḥīna yastaghshūna thiyābahum yaʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ'linūna innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūri
Indeed, they enfold ˹what is in˺ their hearts, ˹trying˺ to hide it from Him! But even when they cover themselves with their clothes, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Surely He knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart.
۞ وَمَا wamā And not مِن min any دَآبَّةٖ dābbatin moving creature فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth إِلَّا illā but عَلَى ʿalā on ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah رِزۡقُهَا riz'quhā (is) its provision وَيَعۡلَمُ wayaʿlamu And He knows مُسۡتَقَرَّهَا mus'taqarrahā its dwelling place وَمُسۡتَوۡدَعَهَاۚ wamus'tawdaʿahā and its place of storage كُلّٞ kullun All فِي fī (is) in كِتَٰبٖ kitābin a Record مُّبِينٖ mubīnin clear
wamā min dābbatin fī l-arḍi illā ʿalā l-lahi riz'quhā wayaʿlamu mus'taqarrahā wamus'tawdaʿahā kullun fī kitābin mubīnin
There is no moving creature on earth whose provision is not guaranteed by Allah. And He knows where it lives and where it is laid to rest. All is ˹written˺ in a perfect Record.
وَهُوَ wahuwa And He ٱلَّذِي alladhī (is) the One Who خَلَقَ khalaqa created ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ wal-arḍa and the earth فِي fī in سِتَّةِ sittati six أَيَّامٖ ayyāmin epochs وَكَانَ wakāna and His throne was عَرۡشُهُۥ ʿarshuhu and His throne was عَلَى ʿalā on ٱلۡمَآءِ l-māi the water لِيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ liyabluwakum that He might test [you] أَيُّكُمۡ ayyukum which of you أَحۡسَنُ aḥsanu (is) best عَمَلٗاۗ ʿamalan (in) deed وَلَئِن wala-in But if قُلۡتَ qul'ta you say إِنَّكُم innakum Indeed, you مَّبۡعُوثُونَ mabʿūthūna (will be) resurrected مِنۢ min after بَعۡدِ baʿdi after ٱلۡمَوۡتِ l-mawti [the] death لَيَقُولَنَّ layaqūlanna surely would say ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُوٓاْ kafarū disbelieved إِنۡ in This is not هَٰذَآ hādhā This is not إِلَّا illā but سِحۡرٞ siḥ'run a magic مُّبِينٞ mubīnun clear
wahuwa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin wakāna ʿarshuhu ʿalā l-māi liyabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu ʿamalan wala-in qul'ta innakum mabʿūthūna min baʿdi l-mawti layaqūlanna alladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnun
He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days—and His Throne was upon the waters—in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And if you ˹O Prophet˺ say, “Surely you will ˹all˺ be raised up after death,” the disbelievers will certainly say, “That is nothing but pure magic!”
وَلَئِنۡ wala-in And if أَخَّرۡنَا akharnā We delay عَنۡهُمُ ʿanhumu from them ٱلۡعَذَابَ l-ʿadhāba the punishment إِلَىٰٓ ilā for أُمَّةٖ ummatin a time مَّعۡدُودَةٖ maʿdūdatin determined لَّيَقُولُنَّ layaqūlunna they will surely say مَا mā What يَحۡبِسُهُۥٓۗ yaḥbisuhu detains it أَلَا alā No doubt يَوۡمَ yawma (On) the Day يَأۡتِيهِمۡ yatīhim it comes to them لَيۡسَ laysa not مَصۡرُوفًا maṣrūfan (will be) averted عَنۡهُمۡ ʿanhum from them وَحَاقَ waḥāqa and will surround بِهِم bihim them مَّا mā what كَانُواْ kānū they used (to) بِهِۦ bihi mock at [it] يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ yastahziūna mock at [it]
wala-in akharnā ʿanhumu l-ʿadhāba ilā ummatin maʿdūdatin layaqūlunna mā yaḥbisuhu alā yawma yatīhim laysa maṣrūfan ʿanhum waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziūna
And if We delay their punishment until an appointed time, they will definitely say, “What is holding it back?” Indeed, on the Day it overtakes them, it will not be averted from them, and they will be overwhelmed by what they used to ridicule.
وَلَئِنۡ wala-in And if أَذَقۡنَا adhaqnā We give man a taste ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ l-insāna We give man a taste مِنَّا minnā (of) Mercy from Us رَحۡمَةٗ raḥmatan (of) Mercy from Us ثُمَّ thumma then نَزَعۡنَٰهَا nazaʿnāhā We withdraw it مِنۡهُ min'hu from him إِنَّهُۥ innahu indeed, he لَيَـُٔوسٞ layaūsun (is) despairing كَفُورٞ kafūrun (and) ungrateful
wala-in adhaqnā l-insāna minnā raḥmatan thumma nazaʿnāhā min'hu innahu layaūsun kafūrun
If We give people a taste of Our mercy then take it away from them, they become utterly desperate, ungrateful.
وَلَئِنۡ wala-in But if أَذَقۡنَٰهُ adhaqnāhu We give him a taste نَعۡمَآءَ naʿmāa (of) favor بَعۡدَ baʿda after ضَرَّآءَ ḍarrāa hardship مَسَّتۡهُ massathu (has) touched him لَيَقُولَنَّ layaqūlanna surely, he will say ذَهَبَ dhahaba Have gone ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتُ l-sayiātu the evils عَنِّيٓۚ ʿannī from me إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, he لَفَرِحٞ lafariḥun (is) exultant فَخُورٌ fakhūrun (and) boastful
wala-in adhaqnāhu naʿmāa baʿda ḍarrāa massathu layaqūlanna dhahaba l-sayiātu ʿannī innahu lafariḥun fakhūrun
But if We give them a taste of prosperity after being touched with adversity, they say, “My ills are gone,” and become totally prideful and boastful,
إِلَّا illā Except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who صَبَرُواْ ṣabarū (are) patient وَعَمِلُواْ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti the good deeds أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika those لَهُم lahum for them مَّغۡفِرَةٞ maghfiratun (will be) forgiveness وَأَجۡرٞ wa-ajrun and a reward كَبِيرٞ kabīrun great
illā alladhīna ṣabarū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti ulāika lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīrun
except those who patiently endure and do good. It is they who will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.
فَلَعَلَّكَ falaʿallaka Then possibly you تَارِكُۢ tārikun (may) give up بَعۡضَ baʿḍa a part مَا mā (of) what يُوحَىٰٓ yūḥā is revealed إِلَيۡكَ ilayka to you وَضَآئِقُۢ waḍāiqun and straitened بِهِۦ bihi by it صَدۡرُكَ ṣadruka your breast أَن an because يَقُولُواْ yaqūlū they say لَوۡلَآ lawlā Why not أُنزِلَ unzila is sent down عَلَيۡهِ ʿalayhi for him كَنزٌ kanzun a treasure أَوۡ aw or جَآءَ jāa has come مَعَهُۥ maʿahu with him مَلَكٌۚ malakun an Angel إِنَّمَآ innamā Only أَنتَ anta you نَذِيرٞۚ nadhīrun (are) a warner وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah عَلَىٰ ʿalā (is) on كُلِّ kulli every شَيۡءٖ shayin thing وَكِيلٌ wakīlun a Guardian
falaʿallaka tārikun baʿḍa mā yūḥā ilayka waḍāiqun bihi ṣadruka an yaqūlū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi kanzun aw jāa maʿahu malakun innamā anta nadhīrun wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin wakīlun
Perhaps you ˹O Prophet˺ may wish to give up some of what is revealed to you and may be distressed by it because they say, “If only a treasure had been sent down to him, or an angel had come with him!” You are only a warner, and Allah is the Trustee of All Affairs.
أَمۡ am Or يَقُولُونَ yaqūlūna they say ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُۖ if'tarāhu He has fabricated it قُلۡ qul Say فَأۡتُواْ fatū Then bring بِعَشۡرِ biʿashri ten سُوَرٖ suwarin Surahs مِّثۡلِهِۦ mith'lihi like it مُفۡتَرَيَٰتٖ muf'tarayātin fabricated وَٱدۡعُواْ wa-id'ʿū and call مَنِ mani whoever ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم is'taṭaʿtum you can مِّن min besides Allah دُونِ dūni besides Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi besides Allah إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you are صَٰدِقِينَ ṣādiqīna truthful
am yaqūlūna if'tarāhu qul fatū biʿashri suwarin mith'lihi muf'tarayātin wa-id'ʿū mani is'taṭaʿtum min dūni l-lahi in kuntum ṣādiqīna
Or do they say, “He has fabricated this ˹Quran˺!”? Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Produce ten fabricated sûrahs like it and seek help from whoever you can—other than Allah—if what you say is true!”
فَإِلَّمۡ fa-illam Then if not يَسۡتَجِيبُواْ yastajībū they respond لَكُمۡ lakum to you فَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ fa-iʿ'lamū then know أَنَّمَآ annamā that أُنزِلَ unzila it was sent down بِعِلۡمِ biʿil'mi with the knowledge of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi with the knowledge of Allah وَأَن wa-an and that لَّآ lā (there is) no إِلَٰهَ ilāha god إِلَّا illā except هُوَۖ huwa Him فَهَلۡ fahal Then, would أَنتُم antum you مُّسۡلِمُونَ mus'limūna (be) Muslims
fa-illam yastajībū lakum fa-iʿ'lamū annamā unzila biʿil'mi l-lahi wa-an lā ilāha illā huwa fahal antum mus'limūna
But if your helpers fail you, then know that it has been revealed with the knowledge of Allah, and that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him! Will you ˹not˺ then submit ˹to Allah˺?
مَن man Whoever [is] كَانَ kāna Whoever [is] يُرِيدُ yurīdu desires ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ l-ḥayata the life ٱلدُّنۡيَا l-dun'yā (of) the world وَزِينَتَهَا wazīnatahā and its adornments نُوَفِّ nuwaffi We will repay in full إِلَيۡهِمۡ ilayhim to them أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ aʿmālahum (for) their deeds فِيهَا fīhā therein وَهُمۡ wahum and they فِيهَا fīhā in it لَا lā will not be lessened يُبۡخَسُونَ yub'khasūna will not be lessened
man kāna yurīdu l-ḥayata l-dun'yā wazīnatahā nuwaffi ilayhim aʿmālahum fīhā wahum fīhā lā yub'khasūna
Whoever desires ˹only˺ this worldly life and its luxuries, We will pay them in full for their deeds in this life—nothing will be left out.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) the ones who لَيۡسَ laysa (is) not لَهُمۡ lahum for them فِي fī in ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter إِلَّا illā except ٱلنَّارُۖ l-nāru the Fire وَحَبِطَ waḥabiṭa And (has) gone in vain مَا mā what صَنَعُواْ ṣanaʿū they did فِيهَا fīhā therein وَبَٰطِلٞ wabāṭilun and (is) worthless مَّا mā what كَانُواْ kānū they used (to) يَعۡمَلُونَ yaʿmalūna do
ulāika alladhīna laysa lahum fī l-ākhirati illā l-nāru waḥabiṭa mā ṣanaʿū fīhā wabāṭilun mā kānū yaʿmalūna
It is they who will have nothing in the Hereafter except the Fire. Their efforts in this life will be fruitless and their deeds will be useless.
أَفَمَن afaman Then is he who كَانَ kāna is عَلَىٰ ʿalā on بَيِّنَةٖ bayyinatin a clear proof مِّن min from رَّبِّهِۦ rabbihi his Lord وَيَتۡلُوهُ wayatlūhu and recites it شَاهِدٞ shāhidun a witness مِّنۡهُ min'hu from Him وَمِن wamin and before it قَبۡلِهِۦ qablihi and before it كِتَٰبُ kitābu (was) a Book مُوسَىٰٓ mūsā (of) Musa إِمَامٗا imāman (as) a guide وَرَحۡمَةًۚ waraḥmatan and (as) mercy أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe بِهِۦۚ bihi in it وَمَن waman But whoever يَكۡفُرۡ yakfur disbelieves بِهِۦ bihi in it مِنَ mina among ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ l-aḥzābi the sects فَٱلنَّارُ fal-nāru then the Fire مَوۡعِدُهُۥۚ mawʿiduhu (will be) his promised (meeting) place فَلَا falā So (do) not تَكُ taku be فِي fī in مِرۡيَةٖ mir'yatin doubt مِّنۡهُۚ min'hu about it إِنَّهُ innahu Indeed, it ٱلۡحَقُّ l-ḥaqu (is) the truth مِن min from رَّبِّكَ rabbika your Lord وَلَٰكِنَّ walākinna but أَكۡثَرَ akthara most ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi (of) the people لَا lā (do) not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe
afaman kāna ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbihi wayatlūhu shāhidun min'hu wamin qablihi kitābu mūsā imāman waraḥmatan ulāika yu'minūna bihi waman yakfur bihi mina l-aḥzābi fal-nāru mawʿiduhu falā taku fī mir'yatin min'hu innahu l-ḥaqu min rabbika walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yu'minūna
˹Can these people be compared to˺ those ˹believers˺ who stand on clear proof from their Lord, backed by ˹the Quran as˺ a witness from Him, and preceded by the Book of Moses ˹which was revealed˺ as a guide and mercy? It is those ˹believers˺ who have faith in it. But whoever from the ˹disbelieving˺ groups rejects it, the Fire will be their destiny. So do not be in doubt of it. It is certainly the truth from your Lord, but most people do not believe.
وَمَنۡ waman And who أَظۡلَمُ aẓlamu (is) more unjust مِمَّنِ mimmani than (he) who ٱفۡتَرَىٰ if'tarā invents عَلَى ʿalā against ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah كَذِبًاۚ kadhiban a lie أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those يُعۡرَضُونَ yuʿ'raḍūna will be presented عَلَىٰ ʿalā before رَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim their Lord وَيَقُولُ wayaqūlu and will say ٱلۡأَشۡهَٰدُ l-ashhādu the witnesses هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ hāulāi These (are) ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَذَبُواْ kadhabū lied عَلَىٰ ʿalā against رَبِّهِمۡۚ rabbihim their Lord أَلَا alā No doubt لَعۡنَةُ laʿnatu (The) curse of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (The) curse of Allah عَلَى ʿalā (is) on ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers
waman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban ulāika yuʿ'raḍūna ʿalā rabbihim wayaqūlu l-ashhādu hāulāi alladhīna kadhabū ʿalā rabbihim alā laʿnatu l-lahi ʿalā l-ẓālimīna
Who does more wrong than those who fabricate lies against Allah? They will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, “These are the ones who lied against their Lord.” Surely Allah’s condemnation is upon the wrongdoers,
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who يَصُدُّونَ yaṣuddūna hinder عَن ʿan from سَبِيلِ sabīli (the) way ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah وَيَبۡغُونَهَا wayabghūnahā and seek (in) it عِوَجٗا ʿiwajan crookedness وَهُم wahum while they بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ bil-ākhirati in the Hereafter هُمۡ hum [they] كَٰفِرُونَ kāfirūna (are) disbelievers
alladhīna yaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūna
who hinder ˹others˺ from Allah’s Path, striving to make it ˹appear˺ crooked, and disbelieve in the Hereafter.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those لَمۡ lam not يَكُونُواْ yakūnū will be مُعۡجِزِينَ muʿ'jizīna (able to) escape فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth وَمَا wamā and not كَانَ kāna is لَهُم lahum for them مِّن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah مِنۡ min any أَوۡلِيَآءَۘ awliyāa protectors يُضَٰعَفُ yuḍāʿafu And will be doubled لَهُمُ lahumu for them ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ l-ʿadhābu the punishment مَا mā Not كَانُواْ kānū they were يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ yastaṭīʿūna able ٱلسَّمۡعَ l-samʿa (to) hear وَمَا wamā and not كَانُواْ kānū they used (to) يُبۡصِرُونَ yub'ṣirūna see
ulāika lam yakūnū muʿ'jizīna fī l-arḍi wamā kāna lahum min dūni l-lahi min awliyāa yuḍāʿafu lahumu l-ʿadhābu mā kānū yastaṭīʿūna l-samʿa wamā kānū yub'ṣirūna
They will never frustrate Allah on earth, and they will have no protector besides Allah. Their punishment will be multiplied, for they failed to hear or see ˹the truth˺.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) the ones who خَسِرُوٓاْ khasirū (have) lost أَنفُسَهُمۡ anfusahum their souls وَضَلَّ waḍalla and lost عَنۡهُم ʿanhum from them مَّا mā (is) what كَانُواْ kānū they used يَفۡتَرُونَ yaftarūna (to) invent
ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna
It is they who have ruined themselves, and whatever ˹gods˺ they fabricated will fail them.
لَا lā No جَرَمَ jarama doubt أَنَّهُمۡ annahum that they فِي fī in ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter هُمُ humu [they] ٱلۡأَخۡسَرُونَ l-akhsarūna (will be) the greatest losers
lā jarama annahum fī l-ākhirati humu l-akhsarūna
Without a doubt, they will be the worst losers in the Hereafter.
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe وَعَمِلُواْ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti good deeds وَأَخۡبَتُوٓاْ wa-akhbatū and humble themselves إِلَىٰ ilā before رَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim their Lord أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika those أَصۡحَٰبُ aṣḥābu (are the) companions ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ l-janati (of) Paradise هُمۡ hum they فِيهَا fīhā in it خَٰلِدُونَ khālidūna (will) abide forever
inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti wa-akhbatū ilā rabbihim ulāika aṣḥābu l-janati hum fīhā khālidūna
Surely those who believe, do good, and humble themselves before their Lord will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever.
۞ مَثَلُ mathalu (The) example ٱلۡفَرِيقَيۡنِ l-farīqayni (of) the two parties كَٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ kal-aʿmā (is) like the blind وَٱلۡأَصَمِّ wal-aṣami and the deaf وَٱلۡبَصِيرِ wal-baṣīri and the seer وَٱلسَّمِيعِۚ wal-samīʿi and the hearer هَلۡ hal Are يَسۡتَوِيَانِ yastawiyāni they equal مَثَلًاۚ mathalan (in) comparison أَفَلَا afalā Then, will not تَذَكَّرُونَ tadhakkarūna you take heed
mathalu l-farīqayni kal-aʿmā wal-aṣami wal-baṣīri wal-samīʿi hal yastawiyāni mathalan afalā tadhakkarūna
The example of these two parties is that of the blind and the deaf, compared to the seeing and the hearing. Can the two be equal? Will you not then be mindful?
وَلَقَدۡ walaqad And verily أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalnā We sent نُوحًا nūḥan Nuh إِلَىٰ ilā to قَوۡمِهِۦٓ qawmihi his people إِنِّي innī Indeed, I am لَكُمۡ lakum to you نَذِيرٞ nadhīrun a warner مُّبِينٌ mubīnun clear
walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi innī lakum nadhīrun mubīnun
Surely We sent Noah to his people. ˹He said,˺ “Indeed, I am sent to you with a clear warning
أَن an That لَّا lā (do) not تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ taʿbudū worship إِلَّا illā except ٱللَّهَۖ l-laha Allah إِنِّيٓ innī Indeed, I أَخَافُ akhāfu [I] fear عَلَيۡكُمۡ ʿalaykum for you عَذَابَ ʿadhāba (the) punishment يَوۡمٍ yawmin (of) a Day أَلِيمٖ alīmin painful
an lā taʿbudū illā l-laha innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin alīmin
that you should worship none but Allah. I truly fear for you the torment of a painful Day.”
فَقَالَ faqāla So said ٱلۡمَلَأُ l-mala-u the chiefs ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who كَفَرُواْ kafarū disbelieved مِن min from قَوۡمِهِۦ qawmihi his people مَا mā Not نَرَىٰكَ narāka we see you إِلَّا illā but بَشَرٗا basharan a man مِّثۡلَنَا mith'lanā like us وَمَا wamā and not نَرَىٰكَ narāka we see you ٱتَّبَعَكَ ittabaʿaka followed [you] إِلَّا illā except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who هُمۡ hum [they] أَرَاذِلُنَا arādhilunā (are) the lowest of us بَادِيَ bādiya immature in opinion ٱلرَّأۡيِ l-rayi immature in opinion وَمَا wamā And not نَرَىٰ narā we see لَكُمۡ lakum in you عَلَيۡنَا ʿalaynā over us مِن min any فَضۡلِۭ faḍlin merit بَلۡ bal nay نَظُنُّكُمۡ naẓunnukum we think you كَٰذِبِينَ kādhibīna (are) liars
faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā narāka illā basharan mith'lanā wamā narāka ittabaʿaka illā alladhīna hum arādhilunā bādiya l-rayi wamā narā lakum ʿalaynā min faḍlin bal naẓunnukum kādhibīna
The disbelieving chiefs of his people said, “We see you only as a human being like ourselves, and we see that no one follows you except the lowliest among us, who do so ˹hastily˺ without thinking. We do not see anything that makes ˹all of˺ you any better than us. In fact, we think you are liars.”
قَالَ qāla He said يَٰقَوۡمِ yāqawmi O my people أَرَءَيۡتُمۡ ara-aytum Do you see إِن in if كُنتُ kuntu I was عَلَىٰ ʿalā on بَيِّنَةٖ bayyinatin (the) clear proof مِّن min from رَّبِّي rabbī my Lord وَءَاتَىٰنِي waātānī while He has given me رَحۡمَةٗ raḥmatan mercy مِّنۡ min from عِندِهِۦ ʿindihi Himself فَعُمِّيَتۡ faʿummiyat but (it) has been obscured عَلَيۡكُمۡ ʿalaykum from you أَنُلۡزِمُكُمُوهَا anul'zimukumūhā should We compel you (to accept) it وَأَنتُمۡ wa-antum while you (are) لَهَا lahā averse to it كَٰرِهُونَ kārihūna averse to it
qāla yāqawmi ara-aytum in kuntu ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbī waātānī raḥmatan min ʿindihi faʿummiyat ʿalaykum anul'zimukumūhā wa-antum lahā kārihūna
He said, “O my people! Consider if I stand on a clear proof from my Lord and He has blessed me with a mercy from Himself, which you fail to see. Should we ˹then˺ force it on you against your will?
وَيَٰقَوۡمِ wayāqawmi And O my people لَآ lā not أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ asalukum I ask (of) you عَلَيۡهِ ʿalayhi for it مَالًاۖ mālan any wealth إِنۡ in Not أَجۡرِيَ ajriya (is) my reward إِلَّا illā except عَلَى ʿalā from ٱللَّهِۚ l-lahi Allah وَمَآ wamā And not أَنَا۠ anā I am بِطَارِدِ biṭāridi going to drive away ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُوٓاْۚ āmanū believed إِنَّهُم innahum Indeed, they مُّلَٰقُواْ mulāqū (will) be meeting رَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim their Lord وَلَٰكِنِّيٓ walākinnī but I أَرَىٰكُمۡ arākum see you قَوۡمٗا qawman (are) a people تَجۡهَلُونَ tajhalūna ignorant
wayāqawmi lā asalukum ʿalayhi mālan in ajriya illā ʿalā l-lahi wamā anā biṭāridi alladhīna āmanū innahum mulāqū rabbihim walākinnī arākum qawman tajhalūna
O my people! I do not ask you for a payment for this ˹message˺. My reward is only from Allah. And I will never dismiss the believers, for they will surely meet their Lord. But I can see that you are a people acting ignorantly.
وَيَٰقَوۡمِ wayāqawmi And O my people مَن man Who يَنصُرُنِي yanṣurunī would help me مِنَ mina against ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah إِن in if طَرَدتُّهُمۡۚ ṭaradttuhum I drove them away أَفَلَا afalā Then, will not تَذَكَّرُونَ tadhakkarūna you take heed
wayāqawmi man yanṣurunī mina l-lahi in ṭaradttuhum afalā tadhakkarūna
O my people! Who would protect me from Allah if I were to dismiss them? Will you not then be mindful?
