بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

يسٓ ya-seen Ya Seen
ya-seen
Yâ-Sĩn.
وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ wal-qur'āni By the Quran ٱلۡحَكِيمِ l-ḥakīmi the Wise
wal-qur'āni l-ḥakīmi
By the Quran, rich in wisdom!
إِنَّكَ innaka Indeed, you لَمِنَ lamina (are) among ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ l-mur'salīna the Messengers
innaka lamina l-mur'salīna
You ˹O Prophet˺ are truly one of the messengers
عَلَىٰ ʿalā On صِرَٰطٖ ṣirāṭin a Path مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ mus'taqīmin Straight
ʿalā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmin
upon the Straight Path.
تَنزِيلَ tanzīla A revelation ٱلۡعَزِيزِ l-ʿazīzi (of) the All-Mighty ٱلرَّحِيمِ l-raḥīmi the Most Merciful
tanzīla l-ʿazīzi l-raḥīmi
˹This is˺ a revelation from the Almighty, Most Merciful,
لِتُنذِرَ litundhira That you may warn قَوۡمٗا qawman a people مَّآ mā not أُنذِرَ undhira were warned ءَابَآؤُهُمۡ ābāuhum their forefathers فَهُمۡ fahum so they غَٰفِلُونَ ghāfilūna (are) heedless
litundhira qawman mā undhira ābāuhum fahum ghāfilūna
so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so are heedless.
لَقَدۡ laqad Certainly حَقَّ ḥaqqa (has) proved true ٱلۡقَوۡلُ l-qawlu the word عَلَىٰٓ ʿalā upon أَكۡثَرِهِمۡ aktharihim most of them فَهُمۡ fahum so they لَا lā (do) not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe
laqad ḥaqqa l-qawlu ʿalā aktharihim fahum lā yu'minūna
The decree ˹of torment˺ has already been justified against most of them, for they will never believe.
إِنَّا innā Indeed, We جَعَلۡنَا jaʿalnā [We] have placed فِيٓ fī on أَعۡنَٰقِهِمۡ aʿnāqihim their necks أَغۡلَٰلٗا aghlālan iron collars فَهِيَ fahiya and they إِلَى ilā (are up) to ٱلۡأَذۡقَانِ l-adhqāni the chins فَهُم fahum so they مُّقۡمَحُونَ muq'maḥūna (are with) heads raised up
innā jaʿalnā fī aʿnāqihim aghlālan fahiya ilā l-adhqāni fahum muq'maḥūna
˹It is as if˺ We have put shackles around their necks up to their chins, so their heads are forced up,
وَجَعَلۡنَا wajaʿalnā And We have made مِنۢ min from بَيۡنِ bayni before/between أَيۡدِيهِمۡ aydīhim their hands/their front سَدّٗا saddan a barrier وَمِنۡ wamin and from خَلۡفِهِمۡ khalfihim behind them سَدّٗا saddan a barrier فَأَغۡشَيۡنَٰهُمۡ fa-aghshaynāhum and We covered them فَهُمۡ fahum so they لَا lā (do) not يُبۡصِرُونَ yub'ṣirūna see
wajaʿalnā min bayni aydīhim saddan wamin khalfihim saddan fa-aghshaynāhum fahum lā yub'ṣirūna
and have placed a barrier before them and a barrier behind them and covered them ˹all˺ up, so they fail to see ˹the truth˺.
وَسَوَآءٌ wasawāon And it (is) same عَلَيۡهِمۡ ʿalayhim to them ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ a-andhartahum whether you warn them أَمۡ am or لَمۡ lam (do) not تُنذِرۡهُمۡ tundhir'hum warn them لَا lā not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna they will believe
wasawāon ʿalayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhir'hum lā yu'minūna
It is the same whether you warn them or not—they will never believe.
إِنَّمَا innamā Only تُنذِرُ tundhiru you (can) warn مَنِ mani (him) who ٱتَّبَعَ ittabaʿa follows ٱلذِّكۡرَ l-dhik'ra the Reminder وَخَشِيَ wakhashiya and fears ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنَ l-raḥmāna the Most Gracious بِٱلۡغَيۡبِۖ bil-ghaybi in the unseen فَبَشِّرۡهُ fabashir'hu So give him glad tidings بِمَغۡفِرَةٖ bimaghfiratin of forgiveness وَأَجۡرٖ wa-ajrin and a reward كَرِيمٍ karīmin noble
innamā tundhiru mani ittabaʿa l-dhik'ra wakhashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi fabashir'hu bimaghfiratin wa-ajrin karīmin
You can only warn those who follow the Reminder and are in awe of the Most Compassionate without seeing Him. So give them good news of forgiveness and an honourable reward.
إِنَّا innā Indeed, We نَحۡنُ naḥnu [We] نُحۡيِ nuḥ'yī [We] give life ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ l-mawtā (to) the dead وَنَكۡتُبُ wanaktubu and We record مَا mā what قَدَّمُواْ qaddamū they have sent before وَءَاثَٰرَهُمۡۚ waāthārahum and their footprints وَكُلَّ wakulla and every شَيۡءٍ shayin thing أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ aḥṣaynāhu We have enumerated it فِيٓ fī in إِمَامٖ imāmin a Register مُّبِينٖ mubīnin clear
innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī l-mawtā wanaktubu mā qaddamū waāthārahum wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu fī imāmin mubīnin
It is certainly We Who resurrect the dead, and write what they send forth and what they leave behind. Everything is listed by Us in a perfect Record.
وَٱضۡرِبۡ wa-iḍ'rib And set forth لَهُم lahum to them مَّثَلًا mathalan an example أَصۡحَٰبَ aṣḥāba (of the) companions ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ l-qaryati (of) the city إِذۡ idh when جَآءَهَا jāahā came to it ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ l-mur'salūna the Messengers
wa-iḍ'rib lahum mathalan aṣḥāba l-qaryati idh jāahā l-mur'salūna
Give them an example ˹O Prophet˺ of the residents of a town, when the messengers came to them.
إِذۡ idh When أَرۡسَلۡنَآ arsalnā We sent إِلَيۡهِمُ ilayhimu to them ٱثۡنَيۡنِ ith'nayni two (Messengers) فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا fakadhabūhumā but they denied both of them فَعَزَّزۡنَا faʿazzaznā so We strengthened them بِثَالِثٖ bithālithin with a third فَقَالُوٓاْ faqālū and they said إِنَّآ innā Indeed, We إِلَيۡكُم ilaykum to you مُّرۡسَلُونَ mur'salūna (are) Messengers
idh arsalnā ilayhimu ith'nayni fakadhabūhumā faʿazzaznā bithālithin faqālū innā ilaykum mur'salūna
We sent them two messengers, but they rejected both. So We reinforced ˹the two˺ with a third, and they declared, “We have indeed been sent to you ˹as messengers˺.”
قَالُواْ qālū They said مَآ mā Not أَنتُمۡ antum you إِلَّا illā (are) but بَشَرٞ basharun human beings مِّثۡلُنَا mith'lunā like us وَمَآ wamā and not أَنزَلَ anzala has revealed ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ l-raḥmānu the Most Gracious مِن min any شَيۡءٍ shayin thing إِنۡ in Not أَنتُمۡ antum you إِلَّا illā (are) but تَكۡذِبُونَ takdhibūna lying
qālū mā antum illā basharun mith'lunā wamā anzala l-raḥmānu min shayin in antum illā takdhibūna
The people replied, “You are only humans like us, and the Most Compassionate has not revealed anything. You are simply lying!”
قَالُواْ qālū They said رَبُّنَا rabbunā Our Lord يَعۡلَمُ yaʿlamu knows إِنَّآ innā that we إِلَيۡكُمۡ ilaykum to you لَمُرۡسَلُونَ lamur'salūna (are) surely Messengers
qālū rabbunā yaʿlamu innā ilaykum lamur'salūna
The messengers responded, “Our Lord knows that we have truly been sent to you.
وَمَا wamā And not عَلَيۡنَآ ʿalaynā (is) on us إِلَّا illā except ٱلۡبَلَٰغُ l-balāghu the conveyance ٱلۡمُبِينُ l-mubīnu clear
wamā ʿalaynā illā l-balāghu l-mubīnu
And our duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺ clearly.”
قَالُوٓاْ qālū They said إِنَّا innā Indeed, we تَطَيَّرۡنَا taṭayyarnā [we] see an evil omen بِكُمۡۖ bikum from you لَئِن la-in If لَّمۡ lam not تَنتَهُواْ tantahū you desist لَنَرۡجُمَنَّكُمۡ lanarjumannakum surely, we will stone you وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم walayamassannakum and surely will touch you مِّنَّا minnā from us عَذَابٌ ʿadhābun a punishment أَلِيمٞ alīmun painful
qālū innā taṭayyarnā bikum la-in lam tantahū lanarjumannakum walayamassannakum minnā ʿadhābun alīmun
The people replied, “We definitely see you as a bad omen for us. If you do not desist, we will certainly stone you ˹to death˺ and you will be touched with a painful punishment from us.”
قَالُواْ qālū They said طَٰٓئِرُكُم ṭāirukum Your evil omen مَّعَكُمۡ maʿakum (be) with you أَئِن a-in Is it because ذُكِّرۡتُمۚ dhukkir'tum you are admonished بَلۡ bal Nay أَنتُمۡ antum you قَوۡمٞ qawmun (are) a people مُّسۡرِفُونَ mus'rifūna transgressing
qālū ṭāirukum maʿakum a-in dhukkir'tum bal antum qawmun mus'rifūna
The messengers said, “Your bad omen lies within yourselves. Are you saying this because you are reminded ˹of the truth˺? In fact, you are a transgressing people.”
وَجَآءَ wajāa And came مِنۡ min from أَقۡصَا aqṣā (the) farthest end ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ l-madīnati (of) the city رَجُلٞ rajulun a man يَسۡعَىٰ yasʿā running قَالَ qāla He said يَٰقَوۡمِ yāqawmi O my People ٱتَّبِعُواْ ittabiʿū Follow ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ l-mur'salīna the Messengers
wajāa min aqṣā l-madīnati rajulun yasʿā qāla yāqawmi ittabiʿū l-mur'salīna
Then from the farthest end of the city a man came, rushing. He advised, “O my people! Follow the messengers.
ٱتَّبِعُواْ ittabiʿū Follow مَن man (those) who لَّا lā (do) not يَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ yasalukum ask (of) you أَجۡرٗا ajran any payment وَهُم wahum and they مُّهۡتَدُونَ muh'tadūna (are) rightly guided
ittabiʿū man lā yasalukum ajran wahum muh'tadūna
Follow those who ask no reward of you, and are ˹rightly˺ guided.
وَمَا wamā And what لِيَ liya (is) for me لَآ lā (that) not أَعۡبُدُ aʿbudu I worship ٱلَّذِي alladhī the One Who فَطَرَنِي faṭaranī created me وَإِلَيۡهِ wa-ilayhi and to Whom تُرۡجَعُونَ tur'jaʿūna you will be returned
wamā liya lā aʿbudu alladhī faṭaranī wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūna
And why should I not worship the One Who has originated me, and to Whom you will be returned.
ءَأَتَّخِذُ a-attakhidhu Should I take مِن min besides Him دُونِهِۦٓ dūnihi besides Him ءَالِهَةً ālihatan gods إِن in If يُرِدۡنِ yurid'ni intends for me ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ l-raḥmānu the Most Gracious بِضُرّٖ biḍurrin any harm لَّا lā not تُغۡنِ tugh'ni will avail عَنِّي ʿannī [from] me شَفَٰعَتُهُمۡ shafāʿatuhum their intercession شَيۡـٔٗا shayan (in) anything وَلَا walā and not يُنقِذُونِ yunqidhūni they (can) save me
a-attakhidhu min dūnihi ālihatan in yurid'ni l-raḥmānu biḍurrin lā tugh'ni ʿannī shafāʿatuhum shayan walā yunqidhūni
How could I take besides Him other gods whose intercession would not be of any benefit to me, nor could they save me if the Most Compassionate intended to harm me?
إِنِّيٓ innī Indeed, I إِذٗا idhan then لَّفِي lafī surely would be in ضَلَٰلٖ ḍalālin an error مُّبِينٍ mubīnin clear
innī idhan lafī ḍalālin mubīnin
Indeed, I would then be clearly astray.
إِنِّيٓ innī Indeed, I ءَامَنتُ āmantu [I] have believed بِرَبِّكُمۡ birabbikum in your Lord فَٱسۡمَعُونِ fa-is'maʿūni so listen to me
innī āmantu birabbikum fa-is'maʿūni
I do believe in your Lord, so listen to me.”
قِيلَ qīla It was said ٱدۡخُلِ ud'khuli Enter ٱلۡجَنَّةَۖ l-janata Paradise قَالَ qāla He said يَٰلَيۡتَ yālayta I wish قَوۡمِي qawmī my people يَعۡلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna knew
qīla ud'khuli l-janata qāla yālayta qawmī yaʿlamūna
˹But they killed him, then˺ he was told ˹by the angels˺, “Enter Paradise!” He said, “If only my people knew
بِمَا bimā Of how غَفَرَ ghafara has forgiven لِي lī me رَبِّي rabbī my Lord وَجَعَلَنِي wajaʿalanī and placed me مِنَ mina among ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِينَ l-muk'ramīna the honored ones
bimā ghafara lī rabbī wajaʿalanī mina l-muk'ramīna
of how my Lord has forgiven me, and made me one of the honourable.”
۞ وَمَآ wamā And not أَنزَلۡنَا anzalnā We sent down عَلَىٰ ʿalā upon قَوۡمِهِۦ qawmihi his people مِنۢ min after him بَعۡدِهِۦ baʿdihi after him مِن min any جُندٖ jundin host مِّنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the heaven وَمَا wamā and not كُنَّا kunnā were We مُنزِلِينَ munzilīna (to) send down
wamā anzalnā ʿalā qawmihi min baʿdihi min jundin mina l-samāi wamā kunnā munzilīna
We did not send any soldiers from the heavens against his people after his death, nor did We need to.
إِن in Not كَانَتۡ kānat it was إِلَّا illā but صَيۡحَةٗ ṣayḥatan a shout وَٰحِدَةٗ wāḥidatan one فَإِذَا fa-idhā then behold هُمۡ hum They خَٰمِدُونَ khāmidūna (were) extinguished
in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum khāmidūna
All it took was one ˹mighty˺ blast, and they were extinguished at once.
يَٰحَسۡرَةً yāḥasratan Alas عَلَى ʿalā for ٱلۡعِبَادِۚ l-ʿibādi the servants مَا mā Not يَأۡتِيهِم yatīhim came to them مِّن min any رَّسُولٍ rasūlin Messenger إِلَّا illā but كَانُواْ kānū they did بِهِۦ bihi mock at him يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ yastahziūna mock at him
yāḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūna
Oh pity, such beings! No messenger ever came to them without being mocked.
