Tajweed & Pronunciation
Phonetic SpellingDhā-li-ka
Common MistakePronouncing the interdental Dhāl (ذ) as a Zay (ز) sound ('Zalika'), or shortening the small Alif on the Dhāl (*Dhā*).
Learning Notes
Micro TafsirIn the Quran, *Dhālika* is often used to point to something grand, elevated, or distant in status—such as *Dhālika al-Kitābu* ('That Book'). Even though the Quran is near us, *Dhālika* highlights its exalted rank and divine stature.
Memory HookThink of pointing across a room to something high up: *Dhālika* = 'That' (far/exalted), while *Hādhā* = 'This' (near).
