Al-Adiyat

وَٱلۡعَٰدِيَٰتِwal-ʿādiyātiBy the racersضَبۡحٗاḍabḥanpanting

wal-ʿādiyāti ḍabḥan

’ By the galloping, panting horses,

فَٱلۡمُورِيَٰتِfal-mūriyātiAnd the producers of sparksقَدۡحٗاqadḥanstriking

fal-mūriyāti qadḥan

striking sparks of fire ˹with their hoofs˺,

فَٱلۡمُغِيرَٰتِfal-mughīrātiAnd the chargersصُبۡحٗاṣub'ḥan(at) dawn

fal-mughīrāti ṣub'ḥan

launching raids at dawn,

فَأَثَرۡنَfa-atharnaThen raiseبِهِۦbihitherebyنَقۡعٗاnaqʿandust

fa-atharna bihi naqʿan

stirring up ˹clouds of˺ dust,

فَوَسَطۡنَfawasaṭnaThen penetrate (in the) centerبِهِۦbihitherebyجَمۡعًاjamʿancollectively

fawasaṭna bihi jamʿan

and penetrating into the heart of enemy lines!

إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insānamankindلِرَبِّهِۦlirabbihito his Lordلَكَنُودٞlakanūdun(is) surely ungrateful

inna l-insāna lirabbihi lakanūdun

Surely humankind is ungrateful to their Lord—

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, heعَلَىٰʿalāonذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَشَهِيدٞlashahīdunsurely (is) a witness

wa-innahu ʿalā dhālika lashahīdun

and they certainly attest to this—

وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed heلِحُبِّliḥubbiin (the) loveٱلۡخَيۡرِl-khayri(of) wealthلَشَدِيدٌlashadīdun(is) surely intense

wa-innahu liḥubbi l-khayri lashadīdun

and they are truly extreme in their love of ˹worldly˺ gains.

۞ أَفَلَاafalāBut does notيَعۡلَمُyaʿlamuhe knowإِذَاidhāwhenبُعۡثِرَbuʿ'thirawill be scatteredمَاmāwhatفِيfī(is) inٱلۡقُبُورِl-qubūrithe graves

afalā yaʿlamu idhā buʿ'thira mā fī l-qubūri

Do they not know that when the contents of the graves will be spilled out,

وَحُصِّلَwaḥuṣṣilaAnd is made apparentمَاmāwhatفِيfī(is) inٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūrithe breasts

waḥuṣṣila mā fī l-ṣudūri

and the secrets of the hearts will be laid bare—

إِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lordبِهِمۡbihimabout themيَوۡمَئِذٖyawma-idhinthat Dayلَّخَبِيرُۢlakhabīrun(is) surely All-Aware

inna rabbahum bihim yawma-idhin lakhabīrun

surely their Lord is All-Aware of them on that Day.
