بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

الٓمٓ alif-lam-meem Alif Laam Meem

Alif-Lãm-Mĩm.
أَحَسِبَ aḥasiba Do think ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu the people أَن an that يُتۡرَكُوٓاْ yut'rakū they will be left أَن an because يَقُولُوٓاْ yaqūlū they say ءَامَنَّا āmannā We believe وَهُمۡ wahum and they لَا lā will not be tested يُفۡتَنُونَ yuf'tanūna will not be tested
aḥasiba l-nāsu an yut'rakū an yaqūlū āmannā wahum lā yuf'tanūna
Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test?
وَلَقَدۡ walaqad And indeed فَتَنَّا fatannā We tested ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who مِن min (were) before them قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ qablihim (were) before them فَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ falayaʿlamanna And Allah will surely make evident ٱللَّهُ l-lahu And Allah will surely make evident ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who صَدَقُواْ ṣadaqū (are) truthful وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ walayaʿlamanna and He will surely make evident ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ l-kādhibīna the liars
walaqad fatannā alladhīna min qablihim falayaʿlamanna l-lahu alladhīna ṣadaqū walayaʿlamanna l-kādhibīna
We certainly tested those before them. And ˹in this way˺ Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars.
أَمۡ am Or حَسِبَ ḥasiba think ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who يَعۡمَلُونَ yaʿmalūna do ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ l-sayiāti evil deeds أَن an that يَسۡبِقُونَاۚ yasbiqūnā they can outrun Us سَآءَ sāa Evil is مَا mā what يَحۡكُمُونَ yaḥkumūna they judge
am ḥasiba alladhīna yaʿmalūna l-sayiāti an yasbiqūnā sāa mā yaḥkumūna
Or do the evildoers ˹simply˺ think that they will escape Us? How wrong is their judgment!
مَن man Whoever كَانَ kāna [is] يَرۡجُواْ yarjū hopes لِقَآءَ liqāa (for the) meeting ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (with) Allah فَإِنَّ fa-inna then indeed أَجَلَ ajala (the) Term ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah لَأٓتٖۚ laātin (is) surely coming وَهُوَ wahuwa And He ٱلسَّمِيعُ l-samīʿu (is) the All-Hearer ٱلۡعَلِيمُ l-ʿalīmu the All-Knower
man kāna yarjū liqāa l-lahi fa-inna ajala l-lahi laātin wahuwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīmu
Whoever hopes for the meeting with Allah, ˹let them know that˺ Allah’s appointed time is sure to come. He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
وَمَن waman And whoever جَٰهَدَ jāhada strives فَإِنَّمَا fa-innamā then only يُجَٰهِدُ yujāhidu he strives لِنَفۡسِهِۦٓۚ linafsihi for himself إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah لَغَنِيٌّ laghaniyyun (is) Free from need عَنِ ʿani of ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ l-ʿālamīna the worlds
waman jāhada fa-innamā yujāhidu linafsihi inna l-laha laghaniyyun ʿani l-ʿālamīna
And whoever strives ˹in Allah’s cause˺, only does so for their own good. Surely Allah is not in need of ˹any of˺ His creation.
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe وَعَمِلُواْ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti righteous (deeds) لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ lanukaffiranna surely, We will remove عَنۡهُمۡ ʿanhum from them سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمۡ sayyiātihim their evil deeds وَلَنَجۡزِيَنَّهُمۡ walanajziyannahum and We will surely reward them أَحۡسَنَ aḥsana (the) best ٱلَّذِي alladhī (of) what كَانُواْ kānū they used يَعۡمَلُونَ yaʿmalūna (to) do
wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lanukaffiranna ʿanhum sayyiātihim walanajziyannahum aḥsana alladhī kānū yaʿmalūna
As for those who believe and do good, We will certainly absolve them of their sins, and reward them according to the best of what they used to do.
وَوَصَّيۡنَا wawaṣṣaynā And We have enjoined ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ l-insāna (on) man بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ biwālidayhi goodness to his parents حُسۡنٗاۖ ḥus'nan goodness to his parents وَإِن wa-in but if جَٰهَدَاكَ jāhadāka they both strive against you لِتُشۡرِكَ litush'rika to make you associate بِي bī with Me مَا mā what لَيۡسَ laysa not لَكَ laka you have بِهِۦ bihi of it عِلۡمٞ ʿil'mun any knowledge فَلَا falā then (do) not تُطِعۡهُمَآۚ tuṭiʿ'humā obey both of them إِلَيَّ ilayya To Me مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ marjiʿukum (is) your return فَأُنَبِّئُكُم fa-unabbi-ukum and I will inform you بِمَا bimā about what كُنتُمۡ kuntum you used تَعۡمَلُونَ taʿmalūna (to) do
wawaṣṣaynā l-insāna biwālidayhi ḥus'nan wa-in jāhadāka litush'rika bī mā laysa laka bihi ʿil'mun falā tuṭiʿ'humā ilayya marjiʿukum fa-unabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūna
We have commanded people to honour their parents. But if they urge you to associate with Me what you have no knowledge of, then do not obey them. To Me you will ˹all˺ return, and then I will inform you of what you used to do.
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe وَعَمِلُواْ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti righteous deeds لَنُدۡخِلَنَّهُمۡ lanud'khilannahum We will surely admit them فِي fī among ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ l-ṣāliḥīna the righteous
wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lanud'khilannahum fī l-ṣāliḥīna
Those who believe and do good will surely be admitted by Us into ˹the company of˺ the righteous.
وَمِنَ wamina And of ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the people مَن man (is he) who يَقُولُ yaqūlu says ءَامَنَّا āmannā We believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah فَإِذَآ fa-idhā But when أُوذِيَ ūdhiya he is harmed فِي fī in ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (the Way of) Allah جَعَلَ jaʿala he considers فِتۡنَةَ fit'nata (the) trial ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi (of) the people كَعَذَابِ kaʿadhābi as (the) punishment ٱللَّهِۖ l-lahi (of) Allah وَلَئِن wala-in But if جَآءَ jāa comes نَصۡرٞ naṣrun victory مِّن min from رَّبِّكَ rabbika your Lord لَيَقُولُنَّ layaqūlunna surely they say إِنَّا innā Indeed, we كُنَّا kunnā were مَعَكُمۡۚ maʿakum with you أَوَلَيۡسَ awalaysa Is not ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah بِأَعۡلَمَ bi-aʿlama most knowing بِمَا bimā of what فِي fī (is) in صُدُورِ ṣudūri (the) breasts ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ l-ʿālamīna (of) the worlds
wamina l-nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā bil-lahi fa-idhā ūdhiya fī l-lahi jaʿala fit'nata l-nāsi kaʿadhābi l-lahi wala-in jāa naṣrun min rabbika layaqūlunna innā kunnā maʿakum awalaysa l-lahu bi-aʿlama bimā fī ṣudūri l-ʿālamīna
There are some who say, “We believe in Allah,” but when they suffer in the cause of Allah, they mistake ˹this˺ persecution at the hands of people for the punishment of Allah. But when victory comes from your Lord, they surely say ˹to the believers˺, “We have always been with you.” Does Allah not know best what is in the hearts of all beings?
وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ walayaʿlamanna And Allah will surely make evident ٱللَّهُ l-lahu And Allah will surely make evident ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ walayaʿlamanna And He will surely make evident ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ l-munāfiqīna the hypocrites
walayaʿlamanna l-lahu alladhīna āmanū walayaʿlamanna l-munāfiqīna
Allah will certainly distinguish between those who have ˹sure˺ faith and the hypocrites.
وَقَالَ waqāla And said ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who كَفَرُواْ kafarū disbelieve لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those who ءَامَنُواْ āmanū believe ٱتَّبِعُواْ ittabiʿū Follow سَبِيلَنَا sabīlanā our way وَلۡنَحۡمِلۡ walnaḥmil and we will carry خَطَٰيَٰكُمۡ khaṭāyākum your sins وَمَا wamā But not هُم hum they بِحَٰمِلِينَ biḥāmilīna (are) going to carry مِنۡ min of خَطَٰيَٰهُم khaṭāyāhum their sins مِّن min any شَيۡءٍۖ shayin thing إِنَّهُمۡ innahum Indeed, they لَكَٰذِبُونَ lakādhibūna (are) surely liars
waqāla alladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanū ittabiʿū sabīlanā walnaḥmil khaṭāyākum wamā hum biḥāmilīna min khaṭāyāhum min shayin innahum lakādhibūna
The disbelievers say to the believers, “˹Just˺ follow our way, and we will bear ˹the burden of˺ your sins.” But they would never ˹want to˺ bear any of the believers’ sins. They are simply lying.
وَلَيَحۡمِلُنَّ walayaḥmilunna But surely they will carry أَثۡقَالَهُمۡ athqālahum their burdens وَأَثۡقَالٗا wa-athqālan and burdens مَّعَ maʿa with أَثۡقَالِهِمۡۖ athqālihim their burdens وَلَيُسۡـَٔلُنَّ walayus'alunna and surely they will be questioned يَوۡمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection عَمَّا ʿammā about what كَانُواْ kānū they used يَفۡتَرُونَ yaftarūna (to) invent
walayaḥmilunna athqālahum wa-athqālan maʿa athqālihim walayus'alunna yawma l-qiyāmati ʿammā kānū yaftarūna
Yet they will certainly ˹be made to˺ carry their own burdens, as well as other burdens along with their own. And they will surely be questioned on Judgment Day about what they used to fabricate.
وَلَقَدۡ walaqad And verily أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalnā We sent نُوحًا nūḥan Nuh إِلَىٰ ilā to قَوۡمِهِۦ qawmihi his people فَلَبِثَ falabitha and he remained فِيهِمۡ fīhim among them أَلۡفَ alfa a thousand سَنَةٍ sanatin year(s) إِلَّا illā save خَمۡسِينَ khamsīna fifty عَامٗا ʿāman year(s) فَأَخَذَهُمُ fa-akhadhahumu then seized them ٱلطُّوفَانُ l-ṭūfānu the flood وَهُمۡ wahum while they ظَٰلِمُونَ ẓālimūna (were) wrongdoers
walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi falabitha fīhim alfa sanatin illā khamsīna ʿāman fa-akhadhahumu l-ṭūfānu wahum ẓālimūna
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them for a thousand years, less fifty. Then the Flood overtook them, while they persisted in wrongdoing.
فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ fa-anjaynāhu But We saved him وَأَصۡحَٰبَ wa-aṣḥāba and (the) people ٱلسَّفِينَةِ l-safīnati (of) the ship وَجَعَلۡنَٰهَآ wajaʿalnāhā and We made it ءَايَةٗ āyatan a Sign لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ lil'ʿālamīna for the worlds
fa-anjaynāhu wa-aṣḥāba l-safīnati wajaʿalnāhā āyatan lil'ʿālamīna
But We delivered him and those in the Ark, making it a sign for all people.
وَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ wa-ib'rāhīma And Ibrahim إِذۡ idh when قَالَ qāla he said لِقَوۡمِهِ liqawmihi to his people ٱعۡبُدُواْ uʿ'budū Worship ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُۖ wa-ittaqūhu and fear Him ذَٰلِكُمۡ dhālikum That خَيۡرٞ khayrun (is) better لَّكُمۡ lakum for you إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you تَعۡلَمُونَ taʿlamūna know
wa-ib'rāhīma idh qāla liqawmihi uʿ'budū l-laha wa-ittaqūhu dhālikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taʿlamūna
And ˹remember˺ when Abraham said to his people, “Worship Allah, and fear Him. This is better for you, if only you knew.
إِنَّمَا innamā Only تَعۡبُدُونَ taʿbudūna you worship مِن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah أَوۡثَٰنٗا awthānan idols وَتَخۡلُقُونَ watakhluqūna and you create إِفۡكًاۚ if'kan falsehood إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those whom تَعۡبُدُونَ taʿbudūna you worship مِن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah لَا lā (do) not يَمۡلِكُونَ yamlikūna possess لَكُمۡ lakum for you رِزۡقٗا riz'qan any provision فَٱبۡتَغُواْ fa-ib'taghū So seek عِندَ ʿinda from ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah ٱلرِّزۡقَ l-riz'qa the provision وَٱعۡبُدُوهُ wa-uʿ'budūhu and worship Him وَٱشۡكُرُواْ wa-ush'kurū and be grateful لَهُۥٓۖ lahu to Him إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi To Him تُرۡجَعُونَ tur'jaʿūna you will be returned
innamā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi awthānan watakhluqūna if'kan inna alladhīna taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi lā yamlikūna lakum riz'qan fa-ib'taghū ʿinda l-lahi l-riz'qa wa-uʿ'budūhu wa-ush'kurū lahu ilayhi tur'jaʿūna
You worship besides Allah nothing but idols, simply creating lies ˹about them˺. Those you worship besides Allah certainly cannot give you any provision. So seek provision from Allah ˹alone˺, worship Him, and be grateful to Him. To Him you will ˹all˺ be returned.
وَإِن wa-in And if تُكَذِّبُواْ tukadhibū you deny فَقَدۡ faqad then verily كَذَّبَ kadhaba denied أُمَمٞ umamun (the) nations مِّن min before you قَبۡلِكُمۡۖ qablikum before you وَمَا wamā And not عَلَى ʿalā (is) on ٱلرَّسُولِ l-rasūli the Messenger إِلَّا illā except ٱلۡبَلَٰغُ l-balāghu the conveyance ٱلۡمُبِينُ l-mubīnu clear
wa-in tukadhibū faqad kadhaba umamun min qablikum wamā ʿalā l-rasūli illā l-balāghu l-mubīnu
If you ˹Meccans˺ persist in denial, so did ˹many˺ communities before you. The Messenger’s duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺ clearly.”
أَوَلَمۡ awalam Do not يَرَوۡاْ yaraw they see كَيۡفَ kayfa how يُبۡدِئُ yub'di-u Allah originates ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah originates ٱلۡخَلۡقَ l-khalqa the creation ثُمَّ thumma then يُعِيدُهُۥٓۚ yuʿīduhu repeats it إِنَّ inna Indeed ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that عَلَى ʿalā for ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah يَسِيرٞ yasīrun (is) easy
awalam yaraw kayfa yub'di-u l-lahu l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu inna dhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīrun
Have they not seen how Allah originates the creation then resurrects it? That is certainly easy for Allah.
قُلۡ qul Say سِيرُواْ sīrū Travel فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth فَٱنظُرُواْ fa-unẓurū and see كَيۡفَ kayfa how بَدَأَ bada-a He originated ٱلۡخَلۡقَۚ l-khalqa the creation ثُمَّ thumma Then ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah يُنشِئُ yunshi-u will produce ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ l-nashata the creation ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَۚ l-ākhirata the last إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah عَلَىٰ ʿalā on كُلِّ kulli every شَيۡءٖ shayin thing قَدِيرٞ qadīrun (is) All-Powerful
qul sīrū fī l-arḍi fa-unẓurū kayfa bada-a l-khalqa thumma l-lahu yunshi-u l-nashata l-ākhirata inna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīrun
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Travel throughout the land and see how He originated the creation, then Allah will bring it into being one more time. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.
يُعَذِّبُ yuʿadhibu He punishes مَن man whom يَشَآءُ yashāu He wills وَيَرۡحَمُ wayarḥamu and has mercy مَن man (on) whom يَشَآءُۖ yashāu He wills وَإِلَيۡهِ wa-ilayhi and to Him تُقۡلَبُونَ tuq'labūna you will be returned
yuʿadhibu man yashāu wayarḥamu man yashāu wa-ilayhi tuq'labūna
He punishes whoever He wills, and shows mercy to whoever He wills. And you will ˹all˺ be returned to Him.
وَمَآ wamā And not أَنتُم antum you بِمُعۡجِزِينَ bimuʿ'jizīna can escape فِي fī in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth وَلَا walā and not فِي fī in ٱلسَّمَآءِۖ l-samāi the heaven وَمَا wamā And not لَكُم lakum for you مِّن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah مِن min any وَلِيّٖ waliyyin protector وَلَا walā and not نَصِيرٖ naṣīrin a helper
wamā antum bimuʿ'jizīna fī l-arḍi walā fī l-samāi wamā lakum min dūni l-lahi min waliyyin walā naṣīrin
And you cannot escape Him on earth or in heaven. Nor have you any protector or helper besides Allah.”
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who كَفَرُواْ kafarū disbelieve بِـَٔايَٰتِ biāyāti in (the) Signs ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓ waliqāihi and (the) meeting (with) Him أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulāika those يَئِسُواْ ya-isū (have) despaired مِن min of رَّحۡمَتِي raḥmatī My Mercy وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ wa-ulāika And those لَهُمۡ lahum for them عَذَابٌ ʿadhābun (is) a punishment أَلِيمٞ alīmun painful
wa-alladhīna kafarū biāyāti l-lahi waliqāihi ulāika ya-isū min raḥmatī wa-ulāika lahum ʿadhābun alīmun
As for those who disbelieve in Allah’s signs and the meeting with Him, it is they who will have no hope in His mercy. And it is they who will suffer a painful punishment.
فَمَا famā And not كَانَ kāna was جَوَابَ jawāba (the) answer قَوۡمِهِۦٓ qawmihi (of) his people إِلَّآ illā except أَن an that قَالُواْ qālū they said ٱقۡتُلُوهُ uq'tulūhu Kill him أَوۡ aw or حَرِّقُوهُ ḥarriqūhu burn him فَأَنجَىٰهُ fa-anjāhu But Allah saved him ٱللَّهُ l-lahu But Allah saved him مِنَ mina from ٱلنَّارِۚ l-nāri the fire إِنَّ inna Indeed فِي fī in ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that لَأٓيَٰتٖ laāyātin surely (are) Signs لِّقَوۡمٖ liqawmin for a people يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minūna who believe
famā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qālū uq'tulūhu aw ḥarriqūhu fa-anjāhu l-lahu mina l-nāri inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yu'minūna
But the only response of Abraham’s people was to say: “Kill him or burn him!” But Allah saved him from the fire. Surely in this are signs for people who believe.
وَقَالَ waqāla And he said إِنَّمَا innamā Only ٱتَّخَذۡتُم ittakhadhtum you have taken مِّن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah أَوۡثَٰنٗا awthānan idols مَّوَدَّةَ mawaddata (out of) love بَيۡنِكُمۡ baynikum among you فِي fī in ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ l-ḥayati the life ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ l-dun'yā (of) the world ثُمَّ thumma Then يَوۡمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection يَكۡفُرُ yakfuru you will deny بَعۡضُكُم baʿḍukum one another بِبَعۡضٖ bibaʿḍin one another وَيَلۡعَنُ wayalʿanu and curse بَعۡضُكُم baʿḍukum one another بَعۡضٗا baʿḍan one another وَمَأۡوَىٰكُمُ wamawākumu and your abode ٱلنَّارُ l-nāru (will be) the Fire وَمَا wamā and not لَكُم lakum for you مِّن min any نَّٰصِرِينَ nāṣirīna helpers
waqāla innamā ittakhadhtum min dūni l-lahi awthānan mawaddata baynikum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā thumma yawma l-qiyāmati yakfuru baʿḍukum bibaʿḍin wayalʿanu baʿḍukum baʿḍan wamawākumu l-nāru wamā lakum min nāṣirīna
He said ˹to his people˺, “You have taken idols ˹for worship˺ instead of Allah, only to keep ˹the bond of˺ harmony among yourselves in this worldly life. But on the Day of Judgment you will disown and curse one another. Your home will be the Fire, and you will have no helper!”
۞ فَـَٔامَنَ faāmana And believed لَهُۥ lahu [in] him لُوطٞۘ lūṭun Lut وَقَالَ waqāla and he said إِنِّي innī Indeed I (am) مُهَاجِرٌ muhājirun emigrating إِلَىٰ ilā to رَبِّيٓۖ rabbī my Lord إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, He هُوَ huwa [He] (is) ٱلۡعَزِيزُ l-ʿazīzu the All-Mighty ٱلۡحَكِيمُ l-ḥakīmu the All-Wise
faāmana lahu lūṭun waqāla innī muhājirun ilā rabbī innahu huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu
So Lot believed in him. And Abraham said, “I am emigrating ˹in obedience˺ to my Lord. He ˹alone˺ is indeed the Almighty, All-Wise.”
وَوَهَبۡنَا wawahabnā And We granted لَهُۥٓ lahu to him إِسۡحَٰقَ is'ḥāqa Isaac وَيَعۡقُوبَ wayaʿqūba and Yaqub وَجَعَلۡنَا wajaʿalnā and We placed فِي fī in ذُرِّيَّتِهِ dhurriyyatihi his offsprings ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ l-nubuwata the Prophethood وَٱلۡكِتَٰبَ wal-kitāba and the Book وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ waātaynāhu And We gave him أَجۡرَهُۥ ajrahu his reward فِي fī in ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ l-dun'yā the world وَإِنَّهُۥ wa-innahu And indeed, he فِي fī in ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter لَمِنَ lamina (is) surely, among ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ l-ṣāliḥīna the righteous
wawahabnā lahu is'ḥāqa wayaʿqūba wajaʿalnā fī dhurriyyatihi l-nubuwata wal-kitāba waātaynāhu ajrahu fī l-dun'yā wa-innahu fī l-ākhirati lamina l-ṣāliḥīna
We blessed him with Isaac and ˹later˺ Jacob, and reserved prophethood and revelation for his descendants. We gave him his reward in this life, and in the Hereafter he will certainly be among the righteous.
وَلُوطًا walūṭan And Lut إِذۡ idh when قَالَ qāla he said لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ liqawmihi to his people إِنَّكُمۡ innakum Indeed, you لَتَأۡتُونَ latatūna commit ٱلۡفَٰحِشَةَ l-fāḥishata the immorality مَا mā not سَبَقَكُم sabaqakum has preceded you بِهَا bihā with it مِنۡ min any أَحَدٖ aḥadin one مِّنَ mina from ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ l-ʿālamīna the worlds
walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi innakum latatūna l-fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin mina l-ʿālamīna
And ˹remember˺ when Lot rebuked ˹the men of˺ his people: “You certainly commit a shameful deed that no man has ever done before you.
أَئِنَّكُمۡ a-innakum Indeed, you لَتَأۡتُونَ latatūna approach ٱلرِّجَالَ l-rijāla the men وَتَقۡطَعُونَ wataqṭaʿūna and you cut off ٱلسَّبِيلَ l-sabīla the road وَتَأۡتُونَ watatūna and commit فِي fī in نَادِيكُمُ nādīkumu your meetings ٱلۡمُنكَرَۖ l-munkara evil فَمَا famā And not كَانَ kāna was جَوَابَ jawāba (the) answer قَوۡمِهِۦٓ qawmihi (of) his people إِلَّآ illā except أَن an that قَالُواْ qālū they said ٱئۡتِنَا i'tinā Bring upon us بِعَذَابِ biʿadhābi (the) punishment ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah إِن in if كُنتَ kunta you are مِنَ mina of ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ l-ṣādiqīna the truthful
a-innakum latatūna l-rijāla wataqṭaʿūna l-sabīla watatūna fī nādīkumu l-munkara famā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qālū i'tinā biʿadhābi l-lahi in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīna
Do you really lust after ˹other˺ men, abuse the travellers, and practice immorality ˹openly˺ in your gatherings?” His people’s only response was to say ˹mockingly˺: “Bring Allah’s punishment upon us, if what you say is true.”
قَالَ qāla He said رَبِّ rabbi My Lord ٱنصُرۡنِي unṣur'nī Help me عَلَى ʿalā against ٱلۡقَوۡمِ l-qawmi the people ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ l-muf'sidīna the corrupters
qāla rabbi unṣur'nī ʿalā l-qawmi l-muf'sidīna
Lot prayed, “My Lord! Help me against the people of corruption.”
