The Striking Disaster!

مَاmāWhatٱلۡقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu(is) the Striking Calamity

mā l-qāriʿatu

What is the Striking Disaster?

وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدۡرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatٱلۡقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu(is) the Striking Calamity

wamā adrāka mā l-qāriʿatu

And what will make you realize what the Striking Disaster is?

يَوۡمَyawma(The) Dayيَكُونُyakūnuwill beٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe mankindكَٱلۡفَرَاشِkal-farāshilike mothsٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِl-mabthūthiscattered

yawma yakūnu l-nāsu kal-farāshi l-mabthūthi

˹It is˺ the Day people will be like scattered moths,

وَتَكُونُwatakūnuAnd will beٱلۡجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَٱلۡعِهۡنِkal-ʿih'nilike woolٱلۡمَنفُوشِl-manfūshifluffed up

watakūnu l-jibālu kal-ʿih'ni l-manfūshi

and the mountains will be like carded wool.

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as forمَنman(him) whoseثَقُلَتۡthaqulat(are) heavyمَوَٰزِينُهُۥmawāzīnuhuhis scales

fa-ammā man thaqulat mawāzīnuhu

So as for those whose scale is heavy ˹with good deeds˺,

فَهُوَfahuwaThen heفِيfī(will be) inعِيشَةٖʿīshatina lifeرَّاضِيَةٖrāḍiyatinpleasant

fahuwa fī ʿīshatin rāḍiyatin

they will be in a life of bliss.

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنۡman(him) whoseخَفَّتۡkhaffat(are) lightمَوَٰزِينُهُۥmawāzīnuhuhis scales

wa-ammā man khaffat mawāzīnuhu

And as for those whose scale is light,

فَأُمُّهُۥfa-ummuhuHis abodeهَاوِيَةٞhāwiyatun(will be the) Pit

fa-ummuhu hāwiyatun

their home will be the abyss.

وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدۡرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatهِيَهۡhiyahit is

wamā adrāka mā hiyah

And what will make you realize what that is?

نَارٌnārunA Fireحَامِيَةُۢḥāmiyatunintensely hot

nārun ḥāmiyatun

˹It is˺ a scorching Fire.
