Ṭâ-Sĩn-Mĩm.

تِلۡكَtil'kaTheseءَايَٰتُāyātu(are the) Versesٱلۡكِتَٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Bookٱلۡمُبِينِl-mubīniclear

til'ka āyātu l-kitābi l-mubīni

These are the verses of the clear Book.

لَعَلَّكَlaʿallakaPerhaps youبَٰخِعٞbākhiʿun(would) killنَّفۡسَكَnafsakayourselfأَلَّاallāthat notيَكُونُواْyakūnūthey becomeمُؤۡمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

laʿallaka bākhiʿun nafsaka allā yakūnū mu'minīna

Perhaps you ˹O Prophet˺ will grieve yourself to death over their disbelief.

إِنinIfنَّشَأۡnashaWe willنُنَزِّلۡnunazzilWe can send downعَلَيۡهِمʿalayhimto themمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyءَايَةٗāyatana Signفَظَلَّتۡfaẓallatso would bendأَعۡنَٰقُهُمۡaʿnāquhumtheir necksلَهَاlahāto itخَٰضِعِينَkhāḍiʿīna(in) humility

in nasha nunazzil ʿalayhim mina l-samāi āyatan faẓallat aʿnāquhum lahā khāḍiʿīna

If We willed, We could send down upon them a ˹compelling˺ sign from the heavens, leaving their necks bent in ˹utter˺ submission to it.

وَمَاwamāAnd (does) notيَأۡتِيهِمyatīhimcome to themمِّنminanyذِكۡرٖdhik'rinreminderمِّنَminafromٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِl-raḥmānithe Most Graciousمُحۡدَثٍmuḥ'dathinnewإِلَّاillābutكَانُواْkānūtheyعَنۡهُʿanhufrom itمُعۡرِضِينَmuʿ'riḍīnaturn away

wamā yatīhim min dhik'rin mina l-raḥmāni muḥ'dathin illā kānū ʿanhu muʿ'riḍīna

Whatever new reminder comes to them from the Most Compassionate, they always turn away from it.

فَقَدۡfaqadSo verilyكَذَّبُواْkadhabūthey have deniedفَسَيَأۡتِيهِمۡfasayatīhimthen will come to themأَنۢبَٰٓؤُاْanbāuthe newsمَاmā(of) whatكَانُواْkānūthey usedبِهِۦbihiat itيَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَyastahziūna(to) mock

faqad kadhabū fasayatīhim anbāu mā kānū bihi yastahziūna

They have certainly denied ˹the truth˺, so they will soon face the consequences of their ridicule.

أَوَلَمۡawalamDo notيَرَوۡاْyarawthey seeإِلَىilāatٱلۡأَرۡضِl-arḍithe earth كَمۡkamhow manyأَنۢبَتۡنَاanbatnāWe producedفِيهَاfīhāin itمِنminofكُلِّkullieveryزَوۡجٖzawjinkindكَرِيمٍkarīminnoble

awalam yaraw ilā l-arḍi kam anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin karīmin

Have they failed to look at the earth, ˹to see˺ how many types of fine plants We have caused to grow in it?

إِنَّinnaIndeedفِيfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَأٓيَةٗۖlaāyatansurely (is) a signوَمَاwamābut notكَانَkānaareأَكۡثَرُهُمaktharuhummost of themمُّؤۡمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

inna fī dhālika laāyatan wamā kāna aktharuhum mu'minīna

Surely in this is a sign. Yet most of them would not believe.

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَهُوَlahuwasurely, Heٱلۡعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mightyٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

wa-inna rabbaka lahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-raḥīmu

And your Lord is certainly the Almighty, Most Merciful.

وَإِذۡwa-idhAnd whenنَادَىٰnādāyour Lord calledرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord calledمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusaأَنِani[that]ٱئۡتِi'tiGoٱلۡقَوۡمَl-qawma(to) the peopleٱلظَّٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīna(who are) wrongdoers

wa-idh nādā rabbuka mūsā ani i'ti l-qawma l-ẓālimīna

˹Remember˺ when your Lord called out to Moses, “Go to the wrongdoing people—

قَوۡمَqawma(The) peopleفِرۡعَوۡنَۚfir'ʿawna(of) FiraunأَلَاalāWill notيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnathey fear

qawma fir'ʿawna alā yattaqūna

the people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear ˹Allah˺?”

قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy LordإِنِّيٓinnīIndeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearأَنanthatيُكَذِّبُونِyukadhibūnithey will deny me

qāla rabbi innī akhāfu an yukadhibūni

He replied, “My Lord! I fear that they will reject me.

وَيَضِيقُwayaḍīquAnd straitensصَدۡرِيṣadrīmy breastوَلَاwalāand notيَنطَلِقُyanṭaliquexpresses wellلِسَانِيlisānīmy tongueفَأَرۡسِلۡfa-arsilso sendإِلَىٰilāforهَٰرُونَhārūnaHarun

wayaḍīqu ṣadrī walā yanṭaliqu lisānī fa-arsil ilā hārūna

And ˹so˺ my heart will be broken and my tongue will be tied. So send Aaron along ˹as a messenger˺.

وَلَهُمۡwalahumAnd they haveعَلَيَّʿalayyaagainst meذَنۢبٞdhanbuna crimeفَأَخَافُfa-akhāfuso I fearأَنanthatيَقۡتُلُونِyaqtulūnithey will kill me

walahum ʿalayya dhanbun fa-akhāfu an yaqtulūni

Also, they have a charge against me, so I fear they may kill me.”

قَالَqālaHe saidكـَلَّاۖkallāNayفَٱذۡهَبَاfa-idh'habāgo both of youبِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۖbiāyātināwith Our SignsإِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weمَعَكُمmaʿakum(are) with youمُّسۡتَمِعُونَmus'tamiʿūnalistening

qāla kallā fa-idh'habā biāyātinā innā maʿakum mus'tamiʿūna

Allah responded, “Certainly not! So go, both of you, with Our signs. We will be with you, listening.

فَأۡتِيَاfatiyāSo go both of youفِرۡعَوۡنَfir'ʿawna(to) Firaunفَقُولَآfaqūlāand sayإِنَّاinnā'Indeed, weرَسُولُrasūlu(are the) Messengerرَبِّrabbi(of the) Lordٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

fatiyā fir'ʿawna faqūlā innā rasūlu rabbi l-ʿālamīna

Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are messengers from the Lord of all worlds,

أَنۡan[That]أَرۡسِلۡarsilsendمَعَنَاmaʿanāwith usبَنِيٓbanī(the) Children of Israel.'إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israel.'

an arsil maʿanā banī is'rāīla

˹commanded to say:˺ ‘Let the Children of Israel go with us.’’”

قَالَqālaHe saidأَلَمۡalamDid notنُرَبِّكَnurabbikawe bring you upفِينَاfīnāamong usوَلِيدٗاwalīdan(as) a childوَلَبِثۡتَwalabith'taand you remainedفِينَاfīnāamong usمِنۡminofعُمُرِكَʿumurikayour lifeسِنِينَsinīnayears

qāla alam nurabbika fīnā walīdan walabith'ta fīnā min ʿumurika sinīna

Pharaoh protested, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you stayed several years of your life in our care?

وَفَعَلۡتَwafaʿaltaAnd you didفَعۡلَتَكَfaʿlatakayour deedٱلَّتِيallatīwhichفَعَلۡتَfaʿaltayou didوَأَنتَwa-antaand youمِنَmina(were) ofٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe ungrateful

wafaʿalta faʿlataka allatī faʿalta wa-anta mina l-kāfirīna

Then you did what you did, being ˹utterly˺ ungrateful!”

قَالَqālaHe saidفَعَلۡتُهَآfaʿaltuhāI did itإِذٗاidhanwhenوَأَنَا۠wa-anāIمِنَmina(was) ofٱلضَّآلِّينَl-ḍālīnathose who are astray

qāla faʿaltuhā idhan wa-anā mina l-ḍālīna

Moses replied, “I did it then, lacking guidance.

فَفَرَرۡتُfafarartuSo I fledمِنكُمۡminkumfrom youلَمَّاlammāwhenخِفۡتُكُمۡkhif'tukumI feared youفَوَهَبَfawahabaBut grantedلِيlīto meرَبِّيrabbīmy Lordحُكۡمٗاḥuk'manjudgmentوَجَعَلَنِيwajaʿalanīand made meمِنَminaofٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers

fafarartu minkum lammā khif'tukum fawahaba lī rabbī ḥuk'man wajaʿalanī mina l-mur'salīna

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers.

وَتِلۡكَwatil'kaAnd thisنِعۡمَةٞniʿ'matun(is the) favorتَمُنُّهَاtamunnuhāwith which you reproachعَلَيَّʿalayya[on] meأَنۡanthatعَبَّدتَّʿabbadttayou have enslavedبَنِيٓbanī(the) Children of Israelإِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israel

watil'ka niʿ'matun tamunnuhā ʿalayya an ʿabbadtta banī is'rāīla

How can that be a ‘favour,’ of which you remind me, when ˹it was only because˺ you ˹have˺ enslaved the Children of Israel?”

قَالَqālaFiraun saidفِرۡعَوۡنُfir'ʿawnuFiraun saidوَمَاwamāAnd whatرَبُّrabbu(is the) Lordٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

qāla fir'ʿawnu wamā rabbu l-ʿālamīna

Pharaoh asked, “And what is ‘the Lord of all worlds’?”

قَالَqālaHe saidرَبُّrabbuLordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَٱلۡأَرۡضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَمَاwamāand whateverبَيۡنَهُمَآۖbaynahumā(is) between themإِنinifكُنتُمkuntumyou (should) beمُّوقِنِينَmūqinīnaconvinced

qāla rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā in kuntum mūqinīna

Moses replied, “˹He is˺ the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, if only you had sure faith.”

قَالَqālaHe saidلِمَنۡlimanto thoseحَوۡلَهُۥٓḥawlahuaround himأَلَاalāDo notتَسۡتَمِعُونَtastamiʿūnayou hear

qāla liman ḥawlahu alā tastamiʿūna

Pharaoh said to those around him, “Did you hear ˹what he said˺?”

قَالَqālaHe saidرَبُّكُمۡrabbukumYour Lordوَرَبُّwarabbuand (the) Lordءَابَآئِكُمُābāikumu(of) your forefathersٱلۡأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) your forefathers

qāla rabbukum warabbu ābāikumu l-awalīna

Moses added, “˹He is˺ your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.”

قَالَqālaHe saidإِنَّinnaIndeedرَسُولَكُمُrasūlakumuyour Messengerٱلَّذِيٓalladhīwhoأُرۡسِلَur'silahas been sentإِلَيۡكُمۡilaykumto youلَمَجۡنُونٞlamajnūnun(is) surely mad

qāla inna rasūlakumu alladhī ur'sila ilaykum lamajnūnun

Pharaoh said ˹mockingly˺, “Your messenger, who has been sent to you, must be insane.”

قَالَqālaHe saidرَبُّrabbuLordٱلۡمَشۡرِقِl-mashriqi(of) the eastوَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِwal-maghribiand the westوَمَاwamāand whateverبَيۡنَهُمَآۖbaynahumā(is) between themإِنinifكُنتُمۡkuntumyou wereتَعۡقِلُونَtaʿqilūna(to) reason

qāla rabbu l-mashriqi wal-maghribi wamā baynahumā in kuntum taʿqilūna

Moses responded: “˹He is˺ the Lord of the east and west, and everything in between, if only you had any sense.”

قَالَqālaHe saidلَئِنِla-iniIfٱتَّخَذۡتَittakhadhtayou takeإِلَٰهًاilāhana godغَيۡرِيghayrīother than meلَأَجۡعَلَنَّكَla-ajʿalannakaI will surely make youمِنَminaamongٱلۡمَسۡجُونِينَl-masjūnīnathose imprisoned

qāla la-ini ittakhadhta ilāhan ghayrī la-ajʿalannaka mina l-masjūnīna

Pharaoh threatened, “If you take any other god besides me, I will certainly have you imprisoned.”

قَالَqālaHe saidأَوَلَوۡawalawEven ifجِئۡتُكَji'tukaI bring youبِشَيۡءٖbishayinsomethingمُّبِينٖmubīninmanifest

qāla awalaw ji'tuka bishayin mubīnin

Moses responded, “Even if I bring you a clear proof?”
