Al-Buruj

وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the skyذَاتِdhāticontainingٱلۡبُرُوجِl-burūjithe constellations

wal-samāi dhāti l-burūji

By the sky full of constellations,

وَٱلۡيَوۡمِwal-yawmiAnd the Dayٱلۡمَوۡعُودِl-mawʿūdiPromised

wal-yawmi l-mawʿūdi

and the promised Day ˹of Judgment˺,

وَشَاهِدٖwashāhidinAnd (the) witnessوَمَشۡهُودٖwamashhūdinand what is witnessed

washāhidin wamashhūdin

and the witness and what is witnessed!

قُتِلَqutilaDestroyed wereأَصۡحَٰبُaṣḥābu(the) companionsٱلۡأُخۡدُودِl-ukh'dūdi(of) the pit

qutila aṣḥābu l-ukh'dūdi

Condemned are the makers of the ditch—

ٱلنَّارِal-nāri(Of) the fireذَاتِdhātifullٱلۡوَقُودِl-waqūdi(of) the fuel

al-nāri dhāti l-waqūdi

the fire ˹pit˺, filled with fuel—

إِذۡidhWhenهُمۡhumtheyعَلَيۡهَاʿalayhāby itقُعُودٞquʿūdun(were) sitting

idh hum ʿalayhā quʿūdun

when they sat around it,

وَهُمۡwahumAnd theyعَلَىٰʿalāoverمَاmāwhatيَفۡعَلُونَyafʿalūnathey were doingبِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَbil-mu'minīnato the believersشُهُودٞshuhūdunwitnesses

wahum ʿalā mā yafʿalūna bil-mu'minīna shuhūdun

watching what they had ˹ordered to be˺ done to the believers,

وَمَاwamāAnd notنَقَمُواْnaqamūthey resentedمِنۡهُمۡmin'hum[of] themإِلَّآillāexceptأَنanthatيُؤۡمِنُواْyu'minūthey believedبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahٱلۡعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe All-Mightyٱلۡحَمِيدِl-ḥamīdithe Praiseworthy

wamā naqamū min'hum illā an yu'minū bil-lahi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīdi

who they resented for no reason other than belief in Allah—the Almighty, the Praiseworthy—

ٱلَّذِيalladhīThe One Whoلَهُۥlahufor Himمُلۡكُmul'ku(is) the dominionٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚwal-arḍiand the earthوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahعَلَىٰʿalāonكُلِّkullieveryشَيۡءٖshayinthingشَهِيدٌshahīdun(is) a Witness

alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin shahīdun

˹the One˺ to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and earth. And Allah is a Witness over all things.

إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoفَتَنُواْfatanūpersecutedٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believing menوَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing womenثُمَّthummathenلَمۡlamnotيَتُوبُواْyatūbūthey repentedفَلَهُمۡfalahumthen for themعَذَابُʿadhābu(is the) punishmentجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellوَلَهُمۡwalahumand for themعَذَابُʿadhābu(is the) punishmentٱلۡحَرِيقِl-ḥarīqi(of) the Burning Fire

inna alladhīna fatanū l-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti thumma lam yatūbū falahum ʿadhābu jahannama walahum ʿadhābu l-ḥarīqi

Those who persecute the believing men and women and then do not repent will certainly suffer the punishment of Hell and the torment of burning.

إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُواْāmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُواْwaʿamilūand doٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deedsلَهُمۡlahumfor themجَنَّٰتٞjannātun(will be) Gardensتَجۡرِيtajrīflowمِنminfromتَحۡتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚl-anhāruthe riversذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatٱلۡفَوۡزُl-fawzu(is) the successٱلۡكَبِيرُl-kabīruthe great

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum jannātun tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru dhālika l-fawzu l-kabīru

Surely those who believe and do good will have Gardens under which rivers flow. That is the greatest triumph.

إِنَّinnaIndeedبَطۡشَbaṭsha(the) Gripرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordلَشَدِيدٌlashadīdun(is) surely strong

inna baṭsha rabbika lashadīdun

Indeed, the ˹crushing˺ grip of your Lord is severe.

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHeيُبۡدِئُyub'di-uoriginatesوَيُعِيدُwayuʿīduand repeats

innahu huwa yub'di-u wayuʿīdu

˹For˺ He is certainly the One Who originates and resurrects ˹all˺.

وَهُوَwahuwaAnd Heٱلۡغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Oft-Forgivingٱلۡوَدُودُl-wadūduthe Most Loving

wahuwa l-ghafūru l-wadūdu

And He is the All-Forgiving, All-Loving—

ذُوdhūOwner (of)ٱلۡعَرۡشِl-ʿarshithe Throneٱلۡمَجِيدُl-majīduthe Glorious

dhū l-ʿarshi l-majīdu

Lord of the Throne, the All-Glorious,

فَعَّالٞfaʿʿālunDoerلِّمَاlimāof whatيُرِيدُyurīduHe intends

faʿʿālun limā yurīdu

Doer of whatever He wills.

هَلۡhalHasأَتَىٰكَatākacome to youحَدِيثُḥadīthu(the) storyٱلۡجُنُودِl-junūdi(of) the hosts

hal atāka ḥadīthu l-junūdi

Has the story of the ˹destroyed˺ forces reached you ˹O Prophet˺—

فِرۡعَوۡنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَثَمُودَwathamūdaand Thamud

fir'ʿawna wathamūda

˹the forces of˺ Pharaoh and Thamûd?

بَلِbaliNayٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoكَفَرُواْkafarūdisbelieveفِيfī(are) inتَكۡذِيبٖtakdhībindenial

bali alladhīna kafarū fī takdhībin

Yet the disbelievers ˹still˺ persist in denial.

وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahمِنminfromوَرَآئِهِمwarāihimbehind themمُّحِيطُۢmuḥīṭunencompasses

wal-lahu min warāihim muḥīṭun

But Allah encompasses them from all sides.

بَلۡbalNayهُوَhuwaItقُرۡءَانٞqur'ānun(is) a QuranمَّجِيدٞmajīdunGlorious

bal huwa qur'ānun majīdun

In fact, this is a glorious Quran,

فِيfīInلَوۡحٖlawḥina TabletمَّحۡفُوظِۭmaḥfūẓinGuarded

fī lawḥin maḥfūẓin

˹recorded˺ in a Preserved Tablet.
