بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

طه tta-ha Ta Ha
tta-ha
Ṭâ-Hâ.
مَآ mā Not أَنزَلۡنَا anzalnā We (have) sent down عَلَيۡكَ ʿalayka to you ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ l-qur'āna the Quran لِتَشۡقَىٰٓ litashqā that you be distressed
mā anzalnā ʿalayka l-qur'āna litashqā
We have not revealed the Quran to you ˹O Prophet˺ to cause you distress,
إِلَّا illā (But) تَذۡكِرَةٗ tadhkiratan (as) a reminder لِّمَن liman for (those) who يَخۡشَىٰ yakhshā fear
illā tadhkiratan liman yakhshā
but as a reminder to those in awe ˹of Allah˺.
تَنزِيلٗا tanzīlan A revelation مِّمَّنۡ mimman from (He) Who خَلَقَ khalaqa created ٱلۡأَرۡضَ l-arḍa the earth وَٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ wal-samāwāti and the heavens ٱلۡعُلَى l-ʿulā [the] high
tanzīlan mimman khalaqa l-arḍa wal-samāwāti l-ʿulā
˹It is˺ a revelation from the One Who created the earth and the high heavens—
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ al-raḥmānu The Most Gracious عَلَى ʿalā over ٱلۡعَرۡشِ l-ʿarshi the Throne ٱسۡتَوَىٰ is'tawā is established
al-raḥmānu ʿalā l-ʿarshi is'tawā
the Most Compassionate, ˹Who is˺ established on the Throne.
لَهُۥ lahu To Him (belongs) مَا mā whatever فِي fī (is) in ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَمَا wamā and whatever فِي fī (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ l-arḍi the earth وَمَا wamā and whatever بَيۡنَهُمَا baynahumā (is) between them وَمَا wamā and whatever تَحۡتَ taḥta (is) under ٱلثَّرَىٰ l-tharā the soil
lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wamā baynahumā wamā taḥta l-tharā
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth and whatever is in between and whatever is underground.
وَإِن wa-in And if تَجۡهَرۡ tajhar you speak aloud بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ bil-qawli the word فَإِنَّهُۥ fa-innahu then indeed, He يَعۡلَمُ yaʿlamu knows ٱلسِّرَّ l-sira the secret وَأَخۡفَى wa-akhfā and the more hidden
wa-in tajhar bil-qawli fa-innahu yaʿlamu l-sira wa-akhfā
Whether you speak openly ˹or not˺, He certainly knows what is secret and what is even more hidden.
ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah لَآ lā (there is) no إِلَٰهَ ilāha god إِلَّا illā except هُوَۖ huwa Him لَهُ lahu To Him (belong) ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءُ l-asmāu the Names ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ l-ḥus'nā the Most Beautiful
al-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa lahu l-asmāu l-ḥus'nā
Allah—there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. He has the Most Beautiful Names.
وَهَلۡ wahal And has أَتَىٰكَ atāka come to you حَدِيثُ ḥadīthu the narration مُوسَىٰٓ mūsā (of) Musa
wahal atāka ḥadīthu mūsā
Has the story of Moses reached you ˹O Prophet˺?
إِذۡ idh When رَءَا raā he saw نَارٗا nāran a fire فَقَالَ faqāla then he said لِأَهۡلِهِ li-ahlihi to his family ٱمۡكُثُوٓاْ um'kuthū Stay here إِنِّيٓ innī indeed, I ءَانَسۡتُ ānastu [I] perceived نَارٗا nāran a fire لَّعَلِّيٓ laʿallī perhaps I (can) ءَاتِيكُم ātīkum bring you مِّنۡهَا min'hā therefrom بِقَبَسٍ biqabasin a burning brand أَوۡ aw or أَجِدُ ajidu I find عَلَى ʿalā at ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri the fire هُدٗى hudan guidance
idh raā nāran faqāla li-ahlihi um'kuthū innī ānastu nāran laʿallī ātīkum min'hā biqabasin aw ajidu ʿalā l-nāri hudan
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Wait here, ˹for˺ I have spotted a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a torch from it, or find some guidance at the fire.”
فَلَمَّآ falammā Then when أَتَىٰهَا atāhā he came to it نُودِيَ nūdiya he was called يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ yāmūsā O Musa
falammā atāhā nūdiya yāmūsā
But when he approached it, he was called, “O Moses!
إِنِّيٓ innī Indeed, [I] أَنَا۠ anā I Am رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord فَٱخۡلَعۡ fa-ikh'laʿ so remove نَعۡلَيۡكَ naʿlayka your shoes إِنَّكَ innaka Indeed, you بِٱلۡوَادِ bil-wādi (are) in the valley ٱلۡمُقَدَّسِ l-muqadasi the sacred طُوٗى ṭuwan (of) Tuwa
innī anā rabbuka fa-ikh'laʿ naʿlayka innaka bil-wādi l-muqadasi ṭuwan
It is truly I. I am your Lord! So take off your sandals, for you are in the sacred valley of Ṭuwa.
وَأَنَا wa-anā And I ٱخۡتَرۡتُكَ ikh'tartuka (have) chosen you فَٱسۡتَمِعۡ fa-is'tamiʿ so listen لِمَا limā to what يُوحَىٰٓ yūḥā is revealed
wa-anā ikh'tartuka fa-is'tamiʿ limā yūḥā
I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed:
إِنَّنِيٓ innanī Indeed, [I] أَنَا anā I Am ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah لَآ lā (There is) no إِلَٰهَ ilāha god إِلَّآ illā but أَنَا۠ anā I فَٱعۡبُدۡنِي fa-uʿ'bud'nī so worship Me وَأَقِمِ wa-aqimi and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ l-ṣalata the prayer لِذِكۡرِيٓ lidhik'rī for My remembrance
innanī anā l-lahu lā ilāha illā anā fa-uʿ'bud'nī wa-aqimi l-ṣalata lidhik'rī
‘It is truly I. I am Allah! There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Me. So worship Me ˹alone˺, and establish prayer for My remembrance.
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلسَّاعَةَ l-sāʿata the Hour ءَاتِيَةٌ ātiyatun (will be) coming أَكَادُ akādu I almost أُخۡفِيهَا ukh'fīhā [I] hide it لِتُجۡزَىٰ lituj'zā that may be recompensed كُلُّ kullu every نَفۡسِۭ nafsin soul بِمَا bimā for what تَسۡعَىٰ tasʿā it strives
inna l-sāʿata ātiyatun akādu ukh'fīhā lituj'zā kullu nafsin bimā tasʿā
The Hour is sure to come. My Will is to keep it hidden, so that every soul may be rewarded according to their efforts.
فَلَا falā So (do) not يَصُدَّنَّكَ yaṣuddannaka (let) avert you عَنۡهَا ʿanhā from it مَن man (one) who لَّا lā (does) not يُؤۡمِنُ yu'minu believe بِهَا bihā in it وَٱتَّبَعَ wa-ittabaʿa and follows هَوَىٰهُ hawāhu his desires فَتَرۡدَىٰ fatardā lest you perish
falā yaṣuddannaka ʿanhā man lā yu'minu bihā wa-ittabaʿa hawāhu fatardā
So do not let those who disbelieve in it and follow their desires distract you from it, or you will be doomed.’”
وَمَا wamā And what تِلۡكَ til'ka (is) that بِيَمِينِكَ biyamīnika in your right hand يَٰمُوسَىٰ yāmūsā O Musa
wamā til'ka biyamīnika yāmūsā
˹Allah added,˺ “And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?”
قَالَ qāla He said هِيَ hiya It عَصَايَ ʿaṣāya (is) my staff أَتَوَكَّؤُاْ atawakka-u I lean عَلَيۡهَا ʿalayhā upon it وَأَهُشُّ wa-ahushu and I bring down leaves بِهَا bihā with it عَلَىٰ ʿalā for غَنَمِي ghanamī my sheep وَلِيَ waliya and for me فِيهَا fīhā in it مَـَٔارِبُ maāribu (are) uses أُخۡرَىٰ ukh'rā other
qāla hiya ʿaṣāya atawakka-u ʿalayhā wa-ahushu bihā ʿalā ghanamī waliya fīhā maāribu ukh'rā
He replied, “It is my staff! I lean on it, and with it I beat down ˹branches˺ for my sheep, and have other uses for it.”
قَالَ qāla He said أَلۡقِهَا alqihā Throw it down يَٰمُوسَىٰ yāmūsā O Musa
qāla alqihā yāmūsā
Allah said, “Throw it down, O Moses!”
فَأَلۡقَىٰهَا fa-alqāhā So he threw it down فَإِذَا fa-idhā and behold هِيَ hiya It حَيَّةٞ ḥayyatun (was) a snake تَسۡعَىٰ tasʿā moving swiftly
fa-alqāhā fa-idhā hiya ḥayyatun tasʿā
So he did, then—behold!—it became a serpent, slithering.
قَالَ qāla He said خُذۡهَا khudh'hā Seize it وَلَا walā and (do) not تَخَفۡۖ takhaf fear سَنُعِيدُهَا sanuʿīduhā We will return it سِيرَتَهَا sīratahā (to) its state ٱلۡأُولَىٰ l-ūlā the former
qāla khudh'hā walā takhaf sanuʿīduhā sīratahā l-ūlā
Allah said, “Take it, and have no fear. We will return it to its former state.
وَٱضۡمُمۡ wa-uḍ'mum And draw near يَدَكَ yadaka your hand إِلَىٰ ilā to جَنَاحِكَ janāḥika your side تَخۡرُجۡ takhruj it will come out بَيۡضَآءَ bayḍāa white مِنۡ min without any غَيۡرِ ghayri without any سُوٓءٍ sūin disease ءَايَةً āyatan (as) a sign أُخۡرَىٰ ukh'rā another
wa-uḍ'mum yadaka ilā janāḥika takhruj bayḍāa min ghayri sūin āyatan ukh'rā
And put your hand under your armpit, it will come out ˹shining˺ white, unblemished, as another sign,
لِنُرِيَكَ linuriyaka That We may show you مِنۡ min of ءَايَٰتِنَا āyātinā Our Signs ٱلۡكُبۡرَى l-kub'rā the Greatest
linuriyaka min āyātinā l-kub'rā
so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs.
ٱذۡهَبۡ idh'hab Go إِلَىٰ ilā to فِرۡعَوۡنَ fir'ʿawna Firaun إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, he طَغَىٰ ṭaghā (has) transgressed
idh'hab ilā fir'ʿawna innahu ṭaghā
Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed ˹all bounds˺.”
قَالَ qāla He said رَبِّ rabbi My Lord ٱشۡرَحۡ ish'raḥ Expand لِي lī for me صَدۡرِي ṣadrī my breast
qāla rabbi ish'raḥ lī ṣadrī
Moses prayed, “My Lord! Uplift my heart for me,
وَيَسِّرۡ wayassir And ease لِيٓ lī for me أَمۡرِي amrī my task
wayassir lī amrī
and make my task easy,
وَٱحۡلُلۡ wa-uḥ'lul And untie عُقۡدَةٗ ʿuq'datan (the) knot مِّن min from لِّسَانِي lisānī my tongue
wa-uḥ'lul ʿuq'datan min lisānī
and remove the impediment from my tongue
يَفۡقَهُواْ yafqahū That they may understand قَوۡلِي qawlī my speech
yafqahū qawlī
so people may understand my speech,
وَٱجۡعَل wa-ij'ʿal And appoint لِّي lī for me وَزِيرٗا wazīran a minister مِّنۡ min from أَهۡلِي ahlī my family
wa-ij'ʿal lī wazīran min ahlī
and grant me a helper from my family,
هَٰرُونَ hārūna Harun أَخِي akhī my brother
hārūna akhī
Aaron, my brother.
